Watching on TV. Rahal said that both cars look like they're out of the race.

I figured a win was a long shot being a new car and all, but I have to say I was impressed with the performance that I did see from the #92. They hung in second for quite a while before the breakage.

I guess #90 car also broke for good then. It just says pits on the list, so it wasn't clear.

BG, yes, you are correct. There is a general Professional Racing Discussion Forum here:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=272 However, this one is way too close to the E92 M3 home. I personally think it is relevant to have this discussion in the general M3 forum as long as we don't have several parallel threads on the same topic. If that happens, we'll merge the threads.

MJ41 is right...a win with a new car is always a long shot. as to the comment from SARD...if they had a DCT they would have been running first in class! The sound of the #90 engine blowing was not good...but they will do well in the ALMS series. These M3s are quick.

The 90 finally got going, but is out after 27 laps. Yet, they're still not showing a DNF yet, like for the 92. There's no way they can get enough laps now to complete 70% of the race, so no matter the official status, I think the 90 is also done.
Rahal said it was something to do with the oil system. Dave

It was almost a certainty that both cars would break, this is their first ever race.

The other thread on the race today was merged with this one, which was started earlier. Please keep the E9X M3 related ALMS race discussion here.

I have to say I was very pleased with how the #92 car did - very exciting to see the leader board pass by three hours in and see him go from 7th to 6th to 5th to - wait Nascar interrupt - 4th, 3rd, then to 2nd!!
Stayed there for some time, and then that horrible sound. I'm sure Rahal is giving a positive image, but he seemed a bit lax about it. I know it's the first race but a little more energy would have been nice to see. Felt very bad about the #90 car, though. When the announcers mentioned the team must have found the "keys" I thought it was a bit harsh. Good run for a quite a while at a hard race track. Feeling good/promising and definitely did not embarrass. Lap times for both cars - even when the #90 was on track, seemed to be on pace. And that pace was pretty amazing for all classes. Freaking 12 hours sprint!

Anyone else notice that the main announcer kept referring to the BMW as an "E93."

It was a shame that I missed the first few hours of the race so didn't get to see the M3 race, but hat off to Audi and Peugeot for producing a thrilling race and ulimately hat off to Audi for winning with a brand new design to win straight out of the box.

Yup, I watched the second half on Saturday to see the and hear (sobbing) the #90 machine die....man, I was upset. The race was excellent and I am trying to figure out a way to go see it in Connecticut.

The GTR M3 still needs a lot of development work as they are about 1.5 seconds off the pace of the front running GT2 cars.Running on the Dunlops might also be part of this as I beleive they are in minority on these tires and this will be another part of the development process. The in car video had a familiar ring to it.Hopefully they can get the engines to last so they continue to develop the chassis.

Yeah, a bit disappointing... No doubt they have the power but looks like electical gremlins and handling needs to get sorted out. Well Porsche has had 30 years to sort out the 911 race cars....we hope BMW can take the fast path like the E46 M3 GTR

Actually, when it was running second it was lapping .4 to .6 seconds off the Ferrari for the several laps that I watched it on timing and scoring. Also, I think it was already carrying extra weight or some constriction as the series organizers tried to make it fit within the class. I don't think that speed is the biggest issue.
Also, it'll be very interesting to see the Corvettes come into GT2 later this year. There's lots of money being thrown at that class. Dave
