M3 March 2011 Production Changes:
  • M3 continues as 2011 model
  • All M3 models receive new BMW Apps (6NR) as an option
  • M3 convertible will offer new BMW Individual Composition Package in the Spring (info coming later)
  • Special edition BMW Individual M3 coupe will be offered in limited numbers in late Spring (info coming later)

The BMW Apps (6NR) is described as: (More details HERE)

Coming as the next advancement in BMW's ConnectedDrive Strategy, BMW Apps will provide new, unique ways of connecting driver, vehicle, and iPhone. Please be advised that adding option 6NR to any vehicle will automatically add Smartphone Integration (6NF) without an additional charge. 6NF will no longer be available as a standalone option. At the time of launch, BMW Apps will offer three functional areas (Apps, Plugin, and Video Playback).
  • Apps will consist of the BMW Connected App and BMW Certified 3rd Party Apps. The BMW Connected App is a free package available for download at Apple's App Store and currently includes Web Radio, Facebook and Twitter. Announcements for BMW Certified 3rd Party Apps will be forthcoming.
  • Plugin allows the user to take advantage of Apple iTunes features (such s Genius, album art, compiling playlists, etc.) that were previously unavailable. In essence, this function brings the look and feel of Apple's iPod interface to the iDrive display (requires snap in adapter)
  • Video Playback enables the user to view any video playback from their iPhone via the iDrive display when the vehicle is stationary (requires snap in adapter).
BMW Apps will be available on all BMW vehicles as of March, except for X3, X5, and X6 models, where the availability will begin as of April. iPhone models supported include 3G, 3GS or 4 enabled with the "BMW Connected" app available free of charge at Apple's App Store.

I was speaking with my favorite/most knowledgeable salesman at my local dealer about a month ago and he mentioned there would be a special edition coming this year. However he stated it would be just another limited edition color/trim package.

Maybe BMW could give us a real send off edition with some GTS parts, namely the suspension, exhaust and if we are lucky the engine. I mean that's only if they are interested in my business that is...

Monte Carlo Blue anyone?

If they just go ahead and clone Mark's M Individual car for this special edition, I predict a lot of interest.

Monte Carlo would be nice.

I'm under the firm impression that the "special edition" will be a unique "special" color (perhaps even an Individual color currently available) and some special leather. That's about it.

Maybe a Matte color, who knows.

Yawn for sure. 6NR should be an upgrade option though for 2009+ models though. But then again, could care less about facebook and tweets on my M3! Even video playback is useless because I never just sit in my car without it moving.

I'm kinda disappointed because I'm missing the 6NR by just a few weeks. But honestly, I probably would never use it. I also don't want to lose the center console space that the smartphone integration takes away.

Fingers crossed for more hp. I am not however holding my breath. With an April production maybe we'll get an answer in March.

I wonder if Patrys will be able to offer a retrofit. He's been able to retrofit MY07 cars with MY11.5 Combox upgrades.

By the way, if March '10 production M3s are MY11, and September '11 production M3s are MY11.5, then what are we calling March '11 M3s if they're still listed as 2011?

6NF = $150

The iPhone 6NR apps are free.

The Combox retrofit outside the US is already done -Combox Media. The US retrofit -Combox Telematics- is not ready 100% yet.

Any MY2009+ with the latest CIC iDrive update supports the Combox. So it would be very easy for BMW to offer an OEM Combox retrofit to any new CIC iDrive but that looks like it won't happen.

The Combox retrofits that you're referring to are from Patrys, yeah? Do you know if he would be able to offer a 6NR retrofit as well (I know you don't speak for him...)

Seriously. I would even be tempted to trade in for a MCB with Rust Brown leather.

Patrys and BMWRetrofit have done the Combox Media retrofit, there are still some issues with the Combox Telematics.
