first service makes car faster??????
Hey guys,
im new to the forum, just got my new 2008 e92 , m3 coupe. my dealer is not too savvy when it comes to Ms, however i heard that my car has limited power and when i goto my first service appoinment at 1200 miles ,they will tune my car to have more power and go faster. i heard about this m tuning from a few people. is this a myth or true? Thanks again. |

It's pure myth. The E9X M3 has no power/performance restriction whatsoever from the factory apart from the usage guidelines stated in the manual regarding break-in procedures, but that has nothing to do with the hardware.

I did not see any noticable difference between the car's performance before and after break-in. I did not red line it before 1200 miles, I did go WOT several times. There are many members on this board who drove it hard off the lot. Nobody has reported any significant difference after break-in as far as I know. That said, the car is supposed to get a little faster with miles, but that's simply due to moving parts being broken in.

I have 6700 miles and any "special" release for more bhp or performance is pure BS. I have driven quite hard and have seen slight improvement with the miles, but that goes with any high performance vehicle. The M3 is delivered as a beast and does not magically unveil new tricks. Enjoy her and if something is too good to be true well then....

Well they did raise my rev limiter @ my 1200mile service....but that is the only power related item I know of.

Really? People have redlined their M3s before break-in so it is possible. How do you know they raised your rev limit? From what to what?

Asked my SA about the 1200 mile service and he said that they do "unlock" the rest of the power, this is because they are sensitive engines. I dont think its a myth.

My service guy (the term SA bugs me) specifically told me that they "re-map" the software at the 1200 mile service...I will say it was hard to tell the difference because I never took it over 5,500 rpm til after the service..so it was for sure faster...make sense??
Just turned 10,000 miles and living at red-line!! |
