Conflicting Invoice Quotes from Dealer??

When I spoke to a dealer about a 2011 M3, he quoted me invoice +500.

He stated that invoice was $60,285. So I offered him $60,000 with a set of mats, which he agrees to.

I didn't think too much off it until I went on edmunds to price out the car with the same options and the the invoice shows as $59,365.

Some details about the car:
Apline White with clothe interior
Competition Package
Carbon Leather Trim
USB/Ipod
Alarm (I need to reconfirm this)

Is there some kind of advertising add on the invoice? Or is the dealer trying to pull a fast one on me?

Is it a 2011 that is already built? or a 2011.5 scheduled to be built? If it is an already built one, you can get the invoice price sheet to verify pricing. Either way there is a $200 training fee and MACO (depends on region... I paid $200). Those don't show up on edmunds (I don't think).

Perhaps he was counting the destination fee?

+1. Maco and training fees are added to the dealer invoice but do not show up on Edmunds. Figure $300-$500 for both depending on your location.

If at anytime you feel like something is up just ask to see a printout like the above posted. If their a stand up dealership they will show you and answer any question you have. If they won't then there "could" be something up, but most likely your edmunds find is missing something. Good luck.

There's a difference between making money and lying. I just wanted to make sure the dealer was being up front with me about the exact number. That's what I was after.

Yeah, the edmunds quote was missing a MACO fee of $400.

Everything worked out and my GF is driving her new M3 now.

There is nothing wrong with that. Any honest dealer will show you invoice if they have nothing to hide.

Awesome. For anyone who stumbles upon this thread I used the reference Truecars.com.

Secondly, like everyone else above said, any legitimate dealer will not be afraid to show you the invoice. However, more than many times it must be requested rather than being shown the invoice out of fair game.

Most lie, it's the nature of their business.

ALWAYS get an official printout showing the MSRP vs. INVOICE price before buying. If they refuse, grab a free water and leave.

Hope you got your deal...
