Catless X-Pipe Installed
Picked up a custom catless x-pipe from a fellow forum member recently. It has both primary and secondary cats removed, and a pair of magnaflow resonators. I tried to pair it with my OEM mod (perforated), but was way too loud and raspy as other forum members have warned. I'm used to loud exhausts, but it was unbearable to drive around with on the street. I swapped back to a stock muffler and it sounds much better, see some quick iphone videos below. It's a bit raspy compared to the oem mod, but has an exotic and aggressive tone to it. Definitely felt a nice gain in power throughout the power band as well.

After driving around with it a bit more, its still a little too raspy for my taste. Its more pronounced and high pitched than the video appears. I'm thinking of going back to the OEM Mod and then add a set of test pipes, can anyone comment on how this would sound compared to fully catless with the stock muffler?

Maybe you can add a second set of resonators (like the dinan xpipe). I'm going to install this set up this week, but x pipe has no resonators. I have the oem exhaust mod like you. I am prepared to add additional resonators if needed.
Can you take a couple more vids if you get a chance.

I just put on test pipes the other day and kept my stock muffler. My only other mod is a k&n drop-in. I can barely notice a difference in sound from the exhaust until I give it some gas. The sound is wonderful, I wouldn't call it high-pitched or raspy, just sounds much 'fuller' if that makes sense. It was exactly what I was looking for.

Dinan xpipe and oem rear section sounds great. Not too raspy at all.

Another set of resonators may do the trick, does anyone have a video of a quad resonated xpipe and stock muffler?

Why not use HFCs? You may lose one or two HP at worst and the sound is cleaned up a bit. Double sets of resonators may work too.

I think also a better rear section would help, but I don't want to invest too much into it. I would have bought a Megan exhaust if it fit the E93, but I'm not willing to remove the lower supper brace. Does anyone know of any similar options? I saw a M2 Performance exhaust on ebay that advertises fitment on the E93, but it looks to be very similar to the shape of the Megan exhaust and I have my doubts about it fitting. I'm considering the custom Magnaflow mufflers, but most of the youtube videos sound a bit "buzzy" if that makes any sense.

These aren't my videos but just for reference, this is basically what my car sounded like with the catless xpipe and oem mod...
I understand now why the driver barely goes full throttle, its so loud that you get everyones attention 10 blocks away! This is basically what it sounds like now with the catless xpipe and stock rear section... And this is what I was hoping it would sound like, but I realize now that the camera may not have captured the true sound or this is just the oem mod alone. Can anyone comment on this combo? Both the 1st and 3rd videos appear to be the same setup, but have completely opposite sounds to them.

I had 4 resonators on my E93 (Gintani full sport with x-pipe) and it was too loud and raspy. I took off 2 resonators and added Gintani HFC. I noticed a big difference in rasp and overall noise. I am also running a VT2-625 supercharger so I'm not sure how comparable this is.

I installed the catless x-pipe today. It was paired with my oem perforated exhaust mod. It was STUPID LOUD. I did a test drive down the street and turned right back into the shop and had them remove it. RASP city. I will not even attempt to add resonators. The resonators will help with the rasp but its too loud for my taste.
With that being said I am selling a nearly new catless xpipe. I used it for a grand total of 3 mins, and then removed. Let me know if you are interested. OP good luck, I was recommended to add some 100 cel or 200 cel cats.

So I decided to go with a Megan Axle Back and I'll see how that sounds. Other full exhaust systems use catless xpipes and don't sound bad, so I think the key is pairing it with the right rear section. My OEM Mod is up for sale if anyone is interested...

I am now running Gintani quad resonated catless with valved race with zero rasp. I also have Gintani valved sport and didn't get any rasp either. I like the sound of the megan I'm sure you'll like it. If it's still raspy I'd add a couple resonators up top

Just installed my Megan exhaust with the catless x-pipe, it sounds so much better, much deeper, and best of all the rasp is 99% gone, I'm lovin it! Megan FTW!
