Ground Control Adjustable Camber Plates - installed
Just had the GC adjustable camber plates installed by the dealership, and alignment done. These are for the OEM suspension. I will be testing then at Sebring on Sunday...
Will post my impressions. My settings are: Street: Front= factory setting, Rear = -2deg Track: Front = -3deg, Rear = -2deg

Great!
What did you do about the front toe situation btw/ street and track? Are you going to adjust the tie rods along with the camber plates for track? Looking forward to a report back after Sebring.

Not doing anything for now - I want to see what happens at the track first. I will monitor inside tire wear and temperature

I think you will love them at the track.
Don't take any real long trips with them set at -3 as they will eat up the inside of your tires faster than you think. That is why the adjustable feature is good.

What is your front toe setting right now? When I adjusted from camber of -1.5 to -3.0, my toe changed from 1/16" toe in to 1/3" toe out, which I think is unacceptable and a real tire killer even for on track. Turn in would be phenomenal but I would be worried about high speed stability. Good luck and keep us posted.

My toe has gone from street toe in 0.08deg to track toe out 0.5deg.
How does that compare with your measurements?

I don't know what the conversion from 16ths to degrees is. The alignment sheet from the dealer is in degrees

A lot of people do not understand that adjustable camber plates are meant to allow the camber to be adjusted and set beyond the factory allowable setting BUT NOT to adjust back and forth on a weekly basis between different settings. Unless you have a really good relationship with your alignment shop and like to go there a lot.
And IDK what's the big scare about negative camber and street driving either. I have been daily driving for years with -3 or more and neutral toe and I don't have any scary tire wear. |

Here is a conversion sheet. Your toe changed less than mine (which is good).

Shosholoza: It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday at the track. Looking forward to hearing about your camber plate experience.
Thanks for the tip about plastidip. PS: I was in the Jerez M3.

Update from Sebring
Quote:
Very easy to do the adjustment at the track. No adverse inside tire wear -3deg front with 0.5deg toe out No twitchiness or straight line stability issues Turn in is friggin awesome! Outside tire wear is significantly reduced. I'm happy!

Maybe I am behind the power curve, but where did you get your Ground Control Adjustable Camber plates. You indicated they were installed by your BMW (dealer?). Are they a BMW stock item?
Thanks vz

Got mine installed yesterday and had them set it to F:-2.5 R:-2 I DD the car and track at least once a month. I did not want to deal with moving the camber back and forth btw street and track. Going out tomorrow to AMP and will see how it does on my track tires!
