Chew on this.....
Here you go Swamp, Foot..... Modded M6 vs. Tuned SL65
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e63...-sl65-amg.html The guy driving is my buddy Russ Ramz, he was the guy that did the M6 206 mph autobahn video..... Good guy, credible. Feel free to discuss

I know how quick a stock SL65 can get to 200mph when it's limiter is removed so I can only guess that either this one hit a problem or it's limiter wasn't removed.
By the way, what power has the M6? That will give me a better guess on the result we just seen. |

I think Russ was saying 550 - 560. He just has cams, exhaust and ECU.

Yeah I watched that one straight after, similar result which lead me to ask the question of what happened to the SL65 which with tuning should be good for 670hp+.
P.S. Was this your mate racing the Carrera GT. [u2b]Uc9kGfkhFOs&feature=related[/u2b] What a car!!!!!! |

As far as the SL65 AMG was concerned, we had similar results last year. We raced about 5 times last year and I was convinced his car had issues. This year, he was doing well and beat every M car he raced. This was actually the last race I did of he day before I had to make the trip South to Germany and was expecting a loss, but I too beat all the other M cars there including another M6 with a bunch of work done by Hartge. Anyway, this is what happened. If his car had problems, it was running fine until he raced me. My losses this year include the Carrera GT--again, a couple superbikes, Ruf 996GT 650 (but there was another Ruf GT2 I beat), and race against a Ferrari 599 GTB. BMW's don't win them all...

Tell me Russ, was his race against you a good reflection of how his car performed against the others which both of you raced?
If not and you yourself thought it should have been closer then maybe he did have a problem or maybe he saw he was losing and decided to give up. |

The weather sucked this day and there were SO MANY cars to race. At lunch, we met and he was telling me about all the M cars he raced and beat. I was guessing his car was running well. He said he took down the M6 Cabrio which was tuned by Hartge (exhaust, ported and polished head with a claimed 570 ps) which I also beat by bus lengths. After lunch, I didn't have much time because I was back on the road to Germany with a friend to was due for a business meeting early in the morning. Anyway, I had to run back to the airfield to pick-up my spare Sony HD camcorder that the boys were using for videos and I had just enough time for one more race and this was it. Compared to last year, his car appeared to run identically the same. He had some wheel spin off the line (like everyone this day) or he probably would have surged ahead. The thing is that at speed (going into 5th gear), I pulled on him hard--just like last year. His car seemed to run fine when he was winning races, and then not so when he raced me. Go figure. I watched him race earlier in the day and he took down several M cars with ease. I was nervous when we raced, knowing it was going to be close, but I knew if I could hang with him until 5th, I would get him--just like the Corvette race last year. Either way, he came out of his car, ripped off his 'M KILLER' plates, handed them to me, gave me a hug and I was on my way--very class act. I will re-post the video soon. I'm putting together some video from last year vs. this same SL65 AMG. Footie, to answer your question more directly--From my experience, his car seemed to be running nomal compared to the other races he was winning and the other races I was winning. I've seen stock Z06s beat SL65's in drag races, so this outcome where high speeds were reached is understandable. The S85 and SMGIII combo is really underestimated by those who don't get a chance to run it at high speeds. My mods include: RPI scoops, BMC filters, Kelleners/Schrick cams, Evosport Headers, Kelleners race cats, Dinan exhaust, and some suspension bits...

Thanks for answering those questions. The guy seem to be a very good sport and I reckon beating all other M cars and only losing to yours is such a bad result.
Your car must be very fast compared to stock M6s because I was sure a SL65 would have them easy but then again you never can tell. Tell me, were you there when the RS6 did it's runs. I think many people got a surprise at an Audi running so hard in stock form, even if it's got 580ps. Next time you are speaking to Gustav, ask if he can get a Veyron to come and play. It would give you something to aim for. Anyway, look forward to the vids and nice talking to you. |

It was nice to stand up to the AMG boyzzz. I feel confident the MTM version of the RS6 would be a tough competitor in a straight line. It might win until the top end when the aerodynamics would favor the M6.
