How to Permanently Disable M3 Automatic Start/Stop
I have a three week old 2010 M3 with the automatic start/stop function. The default is that it is always on.
Most annoying. Anybody know how to permanently turn it off? Thanks. |

Just curious, is there a delay when you pull away from a dead stop? What are the tangible annoying issues with this feature? We don't get this option in the states so I'm curious to know why some people dislike it so.

I'm guessing that some of the performance tuners have this covered either way, or you could hook up a delay relay to simulate a button press after the engine starts. Does the M button turn off start/stop? That would make sense to me and I'm already used to pushing a few buttons when starting up my current cars to get rid of the nav nag screen, disable DSC/ASC, and lately... turn on the seat heaters! |

I am hoping that it is OFF by default in USA, but would ALSO LOVE to know a way to PERMANENTLY DISABLE.
What a STUPID f$&king feature.

Have you driven a car w/ the feature enabled? What specifically about the feature was a detriment to your normal driving style?

If it's off by default and no extra cost, why would you care? Then it's no more intrusive than auto headlights, rain sensing wipers, or anything else that's off by default.

a stupid feature indeed. no one buys an m3 thinking its going to get good fuel economy because of this added feature.

Can you remind me how much gas or emissions this is reported to save? And if it's annoying on a Camry...

1 to 2 liters per hour generally. Not a big deal here but in places where gas is alot more expensive it's more popular to shut off the engine if you're going to be stopped for a minute or two. I'd like to hear how popular it is when temps reach 100F. |

It defaults to 'Off' in the US, but for the UK its defaults 'On'. Pressumably this is the same for Australia its defaulting 'On'.

Your title is a statement not a question. I was looking forward to learning something.

That's correct for US cars, it's off by default. If the US cars can be off by default I'm sure a tuner can code your cars to be off by default as well.

What's mind boggling to me is why we are still charged the $1300 guzzler tax. Should have had the option to have this feature and save on that tax or pay the tax and keep this feature off. Just another thing to worry about breaking down now.
