Question 2011 BMW M3 - Individual Audio - no sound

I was listening to music moderately loud and there was this loud crack and all audio quit. My gongs, PDC, GPS Nav, hands free and radio/CD/Bluetooth audio no longer work... After scouring the forums, I believe I have a defective amp.

I talked to BMW in Canada and keeled over when they told me the price of a new individual amp was $2500, and that if I just ordered the amp and replaced it and it did not solve the problem that it could not be returned. That only if I paid BMW to diagnose and install it would they guarantee that it could be returned...

Sooo... is there any way to diagnose to know for sure if it is the amp or some other problem other than finding another known good amp and swapping it out?

Can individual audio amps be repaired?

Should I look for a used amp, or just bite the bullet and replace it with a known good one from BMW directly.

Help?

I would suggest you borrow an amp - Individual, or Logic 7 will work - plug it in and see if you get sound back. If sound returns, then you know it's the amp. Else it could be the fiber optic which could be even more troublesome.

Is that the only way to be sure... I was told the individual audio is not very common and that it would be hard to source a used one, let alone finding somebody's to borrow to test.

Are there any other suggestions to verify if it is the amp, the fibre connection or some other problem?

I forgot to mention in my previous post - all CIC functions work, just not sound.

Thanks!

Give me a few, I can let you know what pin is power for the amp. I just need to get back to my car and hook it up to a volt meter.
But easiest will be getting a amp.

Logic 7 amp is fairly common and will work for testing, but the volume will be abnormally loud.

I have an EPS amp for sale if you're interested.

First thing to check is whether the MOST loop is operational.. if you can pair or connect to your phone or see a USB device connected to the center console, that should be working fine.

Next question, if you play a CD, does the time count up or stay static?

In cases like this, it's usually the MOST bus being down, a faulty control unit on the bus, or the AMP.

I stumbled across this website:

http://www.bmwlogicseven.com/?p=3837

BMW Logic7

I talked to the guy and he does repair Individual Audio amps at a flat rate of $350 USD with a 12 month warranty.

Has anybody used this service before?

I have a used amp for sale. I literally just bought it cause the dealer told me it was a faulty amp when it turned out to be the subs instead. Let me know if you need it im just trying to get what i paid for it which is a good price compared to a new one from BMW

So I got my amp back from Logic7 - very fast turn around.

I installed it this weekend, and yay, I have sound back. Except it is very flat, there is no low end anymore. The highs are very crisp and bright, but there is very low, low-end until you really turn it up (and even at volume it is weak). I got in touch with Logic7 and he said that it is likely that your subs are blown too. He said that the subs were probably on their way out which blew the amp at the same time.

I talked to the BAV Sound guys and they confirmed that it is very common that the underseat subs fail at the same time as the amp.... so now I'm on a quest for replacement underseat woofers.

I have come up with the following options:

1. Replace with factory woofers - from GETBMWPARTS they seem to be about $500 each. I was never disappointed with the factory woofers, but did always lust after additional low end.

So I started looking for aftermarket alternatives:

2. BAV Sound - ghost woofers - https://www.bavsound.com/BMW-Underse...oofer-Upgrades

3. Jehnert XE 200 - http://www.jehnert.de/en/shop/speake...rive-o200mm-8/

4. Rockford Fosgate - T3-BMW-SUB - http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...ils/t3-bmw-sub

5. Earthquake Sound - SWS 8Xi - http://www.earthquakesound.com/index...rs/item/sws8xi

Does anyone have an opinion, feedback or experience with any of these woofer alternatives to replace my blown underseat woofers?

Thanks!

Looks like Focal also make a BMW underseat option - but may not work with Individual Audio.

Focal IFBMW-Sub - https://www.focal.com/en/car-audio/c...wr/ifbmw-subv2

I forgot to report back that my amp had gotten submerged in water. Leak around the tail light. However by some miracle after drying it out for a few days it works perfectly.

Bumping this.

Anyone have feedback on the best replacement underseat 8" subs are for 2011 M3's with Enhanced Premium Sound.

I have the same issue as someone above. My 2011 M3 with individual sound has no bass, at all. I checked the amplifier output pinouts and indeed there was no Ohm resistance reading on the Left and Right underseat subs.

I unbolted the seat and pulled the under seat speaker out. Both have one lead that is entirely disconnected from the cone. Stupid design.

I'm looking for the best replacement under seat subs.

Anyone know what the ohm on the 2011 Enhanced Premium Sound under seat subs are?

I got Eton B150 underseat subs. They are direct plug n play replacement for my Individual Sound subs, provide 30-40% more bass than stock, and quite affordable.

Get the B150. There is a newer slimmer design made for the F8x M3/M4 but doesn't provide as much bass as the B150.

8ohm. The non EPS are 2ohm.

I've got a set of Bavsound subs for sale. There is a noticeable improvement in kick over stock.

how much for the subs? I'm picking up my new to me M3 today, never seen it in person yet, on the sticker it says BMW professional radio, does that mean it's different from Hi-Fi and is my car good for 8 or 2 ohm?

Thanks for the clarification.

I have searched far and wide via Google & forums and can't find the output in watts per channel on the EPS amp.

I know the amp is 825watts (RMS?) between the 16 speakers.

Anyone have the Enhanced Premium Sound Amplifier specs with breakdowns on channel output in watts (RMS too?) & Ohm value?

If you have silver rings around the door speakers, it will be 8ohm. If you'd like me to check your VIN, email or PM me.
