I love and hate this car at the same time
I love this car because it just does everything so well. The driving pleasure I get from it is beyond words I'm very thankful and count my blessings and the hard work that allows me to sit behind the wheel of an M car.
However, they are certain individuals on the roadways, I will refer to them as haters that has allowed me to hate driving the car. The negative attention this car receives has turned my driving pleasure into a nightmare on many occasions. The constant tailgating until I can't see your front tag has gotten old real fast. light break checking and slowing down is to no avail they keep at it just to further tick me off. The cutting me off at highway speeds while my family is in the car is freighting and frustrating. All because you want to try and prove your car is not superior to mines. I don't want to race you go about your business, I'm trying to enjoy my car not wreck is a constant recurring theme for me. How do guys deal with this ignorance and hatred on the road ways towards M owners? The past couple of weeks the constant harassment has gotten to a crucial point with me. For example, Saturday evening as I was leaving the gym some dick in a X3 decided to ride my arse(pause). I down shifted a bit to slow down, as speeding up only feeds the wolves. This A whole still proceeds to tailgate me more aggressively swerving from side to side, I no longer could see his front tags. Once the road turned into two lanes I waited for him to pull up at the stop light. His sucker ass took forever to pull up by my car and when he finally did, he kept his head looking to the right. I'm normally never a violent guy, but it took every ounce of self control and keeping my cool not to get out and sock this guy a couple of time with hopes of breaking his jaw amongst other facial parts. I've seen road rage incidents end deadly too many time in the news, so keeping a cool head always makes sense even though it's very hard at times. Please chime in. |

Window tints. No eye contact makes it a bit easier for me. Granted I live in SC, and not NYC which seems like is full of idiot drivers.
If you are being tailgated, I'd just switch lanes, rather than gas it. Just my 2 cents.

I bought a G1W-C Dash Cam in October, just because of this type of nonsense. They're so inexpensive now it makes sense to get one, especially in car that attracts attention.

Yeah def need to invest in a dash cam. My brother has had one for over a year and a week ago he had some idiot side swipe his car and keep going. Unfortunately he couldn't get plate number from footage because it was raining and his tints didn't help in the lighting department either. But he did present the video to his insurer. We do at least know the make and model of the car. And the driver left behind a keep sake (piece of his front bumper).

Sorry to hear about your stress with this.
I am surprised, because I usually (touch wood) don't get any aggression driving in NYC (now LA is another matter..) apart from commercial trucks maybe. Perhaps the Alpine White has a soothing effect on the others... Is your car marked from the outside in any special way? Extra spoiler or something like it? |

I haven't noticed that type of behavior. I have seen a couple people take pictures while driving which surprised me since it's not a Ferrari or cars of that nature.

I get a lot of people coming up to me wanting to race, give me thumbs up/nod, and/or stare. I don't think i get tailgated more than before. When the Civic with the fart can pulls up next to me wanting to race, I just laugh a little and shake my head.

Thanks for the input thus far fellas. A rear mounted dash cam would be awesome to catch some of these pricks tags and report them for reckless driving.
No racing numbers or spoilers. I do have my headlights modded, but the tailgaters don't see the modded headlights. I did notice since switching to my winter setup: VMR wheels with 12mm spacers on rear the car looks much more aggressive. Yes, her arse looks little more sexier from the back, so like a moth to a flame that could be the cause for the added negative attention than I usually get. My Friday started with a kitted out Miata riding my ass so close I was sure he was going to hit me. Bastard then cut off two cars to get around me because I was not going to speed on a Friday down this main road, there are always cops with lidar out. Then I had a lady with a kid in her car pull up to me and bust out a big slr camera. It started with her behind me and then next to me stopping traffic in her lane just so she could ride beside me while trying to drive and take pictures at the same time. I was getting so pissed but what can I do? She eventually pulled up next to me yelling nice car and drove off. I was thinking what one of the other posters said, its not a friggin Ferarri so what the hell? I saw at least 4 Ms that day, but do admit mine was the coolest

Haven't had those issues in NC. I try to drive defensively in traffic - at speed limits and maintain large gaps so most the DBs speed past. Open her up on empty roads. Once in a while I will run with a nice car if no traffic. The other day a little BRZ and I had some fun over a few miles but mutually enjoyed. Only real negative in last year was a guy rolling by at intersection took one look at my mintly waxed car and gave me the finger. I just smiled back. Let the miserable folk be miserable. Ignore and enjoy yourself best you can. Note I don't DD my car so I probably get less chances for the BS you are dealing with every day.

I actually think the E92 M3 is the perfect balance of performance and inconspicuousness: Fast and sporty enough to be fun on the road and track, yet subtle enough that no one gives an F or notices it. (At least in San Diego.)

Try driving a GTR, that thing gives you a 100% chance of being tailgated and seeing people drive 2x the speed limit to catch up to you, only to hang in the blind spot of the car.
