This would be the M3's competition, when and "if" it ever comes out.

The new Camaro is one of the first GM cars I have been excited about.

Specifically the V6 DFI version of the Camaro...thats going to be a great affordable sports car and with 300hp its not going to be the normal V6 pony car slouch!

Anyone see the new TEST DRIVE over the weekend? Kendall tested the Challenger SRT with a bunch of big names including Leno. This is the American muscle car I would choose!

I would love for GM to bring out a small RWD V8 coupe for about $20,000. They can even keep it at 300 hp (just as long as it's a smallblock) to avoid competing with the Camaro.

300hp 3.6L V6 - LS $22,995

422hp 6.2l V8 - SS $30,995

I think they just ruined Hyundai's day. They were claiming the least expensive 300hp car, with their upcomping Genesis Coupe. Not anymore.

Challenger doesn't have IRS, either, does it?

It does, the Challenger's chassis is from the Mercedes/Chrysler (rocky) marriage. It was derived from the previous-generation E-Class.

If I was in the market for a 2 door, the new Camaro would be hard to pass up. Great performance, with a chassis derived from a more upscale car. Only prob is the weight. However I don't think gas mileage will be too bad, once you consider performance. I'm impressed, but I still don't think it will dethrone the Stang. No matter how behind the times that car is, in technology, performance, looks etc....Americans can't get enough of em.

It's going to be a long time before I'm in the market for another 2 door, but this is the perfect "kids finally moved out of the house" car!

Camaro SS: 422 HP V8 for about $30 grand! WOW!!

It will likely get 28mpg Fwy too, just like the C6 Vette, with that tall 6th gear.

There's a huge difference in cost vs the M3. The Camaro is much cheaper to buy and run. Plus if you break or scratch one, do you really care? OTOH, if you ding your precious M3, it's a crisis for you guys, right?

It's going to be a GREAT performance bang for the buck. Can't wait til Feb '09, I want to drive one.

im 19. i have enough money right now to buy the Camaro... but am choosing to hold off and save for another year towards an M3.

But ive done my homework, and the camaro is the best performance/for the money car in the world. its really amazing what they have done, and for less than 3k worth of upgrades your looking at 500hp w/o a blower.

Out of the 3 muscle cars, the Mustang would be my choice because it scored better in the crash tests, its really a push between them. It's what you like better.
The M3 is a track car compared to the other 3 but at 2x the price.
