Does rear tires have to balanced?

I noticed a slight vibration on my winter set at high speeds. I had the tires checked at a tire shop and they said it wasn't balanced correctly. I had them fix the front tires and when I asked them to check the rears, they said it wasn't required. Is that true?

Also, what kind of damage can I have endured by driving with unbalanced tires, it was a long trip (300miles) at mainly highway speeds.

Thanks for any inputs.

Damage to the car? Almost certainly not. Some marginal increase in wear on the suspension hypothetically, but nothing I think you'd notice.

If anything, it may have created some uneven wear on the tires, but 300 miles is not usually long enough to create much of a wear pattern on tires.

TL/DR version : you're probably fine.
