ben can you comment on the re-11's vs the supuer sports

anyone?

The re-11 was the best tire i have ever owned but with all the hype i thought the supersports were somehow supposed to be better

i do track my car in the summer and drive it hard and the greasyness of the ps2's are still in my memory! yuck

According to Tirerack the Neova AD08 is better than the RE11. How about ADO8 vs Super Sport?

Why care about grip if all you ever do is cruise on the street? You'd be better served buying a tire strictly for comfort and tread life.

Anyways, I had the opportunity to hold a Pilot Super Sport recently, they are very light tires.

The PS2 and PSS are street tires. The PSS will be better on track than the PS2.

If you track it, the Re-11 or AD08 are better. The PSS is getting big hype because it is raising the bar for pure street tires, but still not as track focused as the class of tire that we call Extreme Performance, typified by the Re11 and AD08.

And even that would be surprising, since the PSS is rated as 'ultra-high performance summer', compared to 'max summer' for the PS2, is it not? And the maximum street rating, 'extreme performance', is where the other 2 mentioned belong indeed, so they should clearly be superior on a track.

Hey Ben, when the hell are you going to get the 255/35/19 in DWS? Apparently the 275/35/19 is in stock, but not the front size. Been waiting since March, when I was told by May. And now it seems like 2 more months. What's going on? You can PM me so I don't hijack the thread more than I already did . Thx.

Replaced PS with re-11's-MANY ISSUES- Got em on new BBS wheels from Tire Rack and they shook real bad- installer said they used a ton of weights at Tire Rack and did not quite balance them and that they could not do much better as tires were out of round. Second set was easier to balance and had road force of only 2 and 11 lbs. but wheel and floor of car continue to vibrate and I get lots of "chuffing" in tight turns- took it to Motor Works West who helped me realize that , essentially the tires flat spot every time the car is parked for more than an hour or two. It takes 20-30 mins of highway driving to smooth out! Not fun at all. IMHO should NOT be sold for street use. BTW it's fine in the rain, the ride is fine-I could understand if track oriented tires had those issues. This is just not cool.

Some sources do not distinguish between 'max performance' and 'ultra high performance' for summer tires. The PSS would fall into the max performance category in our system. Others may call it a UHP, but they woudl have called the PS2 a UHP.

I sense a bit of frustration on the DWS, and I share your sentiments. They have been a nightmare to keep in stock in many sizes, and Conti gives us very little in the way of reliable ETA. If you are able to wait and do not have an order in place, you should get your order in so that you are on the list. When Conti gets around to sending them, it is usually a small quantity at first.

I am so close to pulling the trigger on a set of PSS for my 19' stock M3 rims. I am running worn out PS2's right now and need tires fast. I was all set on the PSS until I found that OEM sizes for 19" rears were not available.

The larger size concerns me a little, will 255/35/19 on the front or 275/35/19 on the rear rub, at all? My M is completely stock.

Will the slightly out of spec sizes effect the balance or handling of the car negatively?

I don't track my M3 (yet) but do drive it hard and spend a lot of time on remote mountain ranges carving canyons.

I've read this whole thread and whatever else I could find on the PSS and opinions seem to be mostly positive. I just want to be sure I am making the right move before I buy.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I had been planning on replacing my stock rear 19" PS2's and I found a bubble on one of the fronts yesterday so my plans changed. I bought a set about an hour ago of the Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 in 255/35/19 and 275/35/19. I have these tires on my E46M3 and I like them and they were $425 cheaper for the set than the Pilot Super Sports (after all rebates were taken into account - $60 on the Hankook and $70 on the PSS). The Hankooks got a great review in the C&D tire test of 2009.

PSS's are much, much faster on the track than PS2's. They are very comparable to the AD08s in grip in my experience, but they do wear faster on the shoulder than the AD08s. Cheaper tires are available for street use but will not hold up on the track and will prove to be disappointing.

I have had them on for a couple months now in these sizes. I get very minor rubbing in the rear, but I have 10mm spacers. Without the spacers it would be no issue. Overall, I think the balance and performance is better. Just got back from the track as well, and they worked great. Get a bit greasy in a 30 minute session.

Do you have the 220M wheels or the ZCP wheels?

Anyone experienced issue with ABS or other sensors complaining about the non-OEM size?

Ben,

Any chance that the M3 GTS rear size will be available?

I had the V12 last summer on the M3. They are good tire for the money but are not even close to the PSS in dry grip or steering response. The PSS grip MUCH stronger on acceleration and grip through corners notably better than the Hankooks. IMO, the Hankooks were a step below the PS2, although close, and the PS2 is a step below the PSS. But, with all of that said, the V12s are still a good value tire when you consider price but there is a reason they are $400 less than the PSS (and it isn't just brand premium).

I'm sure the Hankooks ride better though, which is a positive for those who don't push their cars as hard.

I really like the performance of my PSS but they do still ride somewhat harsh on bad streets, pretty much in line with other max performance tires.

True... the Hankooks were a softer tire ride comfort wise but you also really noticed it in turn in, etc. Depends on what you are looking for. I find the PSS to be slightly harsher than the Hankook but softer than the PS2. It is essentially in the middle for ride harshness IMO. I actually find the PSS with EDC on comfort (on a ZCP car) is quite compliant around the city and on bad roads but, that also, is subjective.

I'm debating between the RE11s and the PSS. Planning on tracking at least 2-3 more times before the summer ends.

Yeah, I agree. The PSS's don't ride badly, but they're still max performance summer tires. Your roads may be better than mine as well. Actually I'm sure they are, you're in Canada and I'm in broke California.

I put Kooks on my dad's Merc SL and they ride brilliantly over our war-torn streets.
