Pics of Aussie M3 launch night, Alpine White
Hi all,
I didn't take that many photos from the launch night, was too busy enjoying BMWs champagne Here are a few pics of an AW M3 from the Doncaster BMW launch night in Australia. |

Nice one, wouldn't mind some more pics of both!! lol
I was at the Southbank Launch. Not sure as to how to post pics yet but there was a Jerez Black with carbon roof and a Silverstone II with sunroof. Magnificent machine... but I have to wait until April... I have ordered the White with the carbon roof, how does it look?? Any pearl through it? Cheers, Bazoo. |

Thanks for posting those. They are the first good pics I've seen of the car with the sun-roof. It is very close to the specs I have ordered (alpine white, sun-roof, 19" wheels, aluminium interior trim), although I've gone for Fox Red leather.
I missed the launch in Sydney, but dropped by the motor show today and saw the car (alpine white again, carbon roof). Alpine white is pure white, there is no pearl effect, but there is also no orange peel effect (as many of the BMW metalic paint jobs seem to have). In white, the car looks as good as it does in the promotional bumpf ... squat, purposeful. The 3 series coupe to me, looks a bit weak and slim-hipped from the B-pillar back, this doesn't, it is a more balanced aesthetic. |

There was also a Jerez at the launch but to be honest it kin of faded into the background, the white looks truly awesome.
When the two M3s were revealed I was very impressed, up close the car looks a lot more intimidating than it does in photos. Big wheels. Big guards. Brilliant white. Big power dome. Very nice. It was fired up and given a bit of a rev. OMG it sounded good |

Jerez Black
I couldn't see any metalic "flicks",
It just looked like black with a deep purple through it. The only way I could describle the depth would be that it reminded me of the texture of soft butter. You could almost dip your finger into it!! Great looking car , but I don't think that I could live with it (country area). Sorry for the poor pictures. Thanks for the clarification in regards to the white. I am very much looking forward to seeing one. I might just have to pop into Doncaster BMW on the way to Phillip Island tomorrow. |

By the time my gaze wandered away from the AW M3 to the Jerez one I had consumed quite a few champagnes and bloody marys so my judgement may be a little clouded, but the first thing I had to ask my dealer when I approached the black one was "is that Jerez or plain black?"
It was fairly dark, honestly it just looked black to me. Another dealer placed his cigarette lighter over the carbon roof on the Jerez car and there is a definite contrast still between the roof and Jerez colour so I wouldn't be concerned about totally losing that contrast in a darker car, though it will never be like a CF roof on Alpine White. Perhaps outside it will look better but inside the white took the cake visually. The lines are preserved in AW. I especially like the continual line down each side of the car which shows up great in AW, I have a few more pics that show that line but I don't have permission from Catwoman to post any more yet |

Whoa looks like I have been hijacked by Panamanians!
RichieBMW I drove a silver one a couple of days ago and was not that impressed with the colour outside, in daylight....Every car is silver in Australia. I have not yet seen white outside in the flesh but I am still happy with the decision to go for AW. What did you think of Melbourne Red? Is it dull? |

I was at the Perth launch where they had two cars. Melbourne Red with CF roof and Space Grey with Sunroof. Both cars looked fantastic although the consensus was that the MR wasn't a great looking colour. Having said that some guy bought the car on the launch night.
I went for a test drive in the SG the following day with just 60 km on the clock. The experience was mind numbing. compared with the E46 M3, this car is a very comfortable car in every sense. It is a true GT. In the normal setting it rode the broken Aussie roads really well while the old car had suspensions that were not forgiving. You turn on the sports mode and it is a different animal. The seats are a world apart. The new ones hug you to death and are very comfy. Even the texture of the leather is much nicer. A very soft feel to it. The cabin although plain is classy and the finish is great. The steering was light and bit vague but I don't think it's any way a hinderance to your daily driving. Exhaust note is aggressive and unique and definitely make you feel that you are in a special car. It is deep but not intrusive, and you put your foot down and it slowly but surely lifts it head to make its presence felt. There have been a lot of reviews criticizing the gear box - notchy! I didn't think so. It was smooth and the clutch was very light and forgiving. I haven't driven a manual in two months since I sold my E46 M3, not once did I stall the car during the test run. There is no kangaroo hopping as noted by some others before. I think BMW has aimed this car at the current 5 series owners who can't afford the M5 but would still prefer a M car. Having driven a 550 and almost bought it, I think I made the right choice by waiting for the new M3. It is going to give me the best of both worlds. Cruise and relax when I want and go for a long drive and get out of the car without a sore back, and at the same time push a couple of buttons here and there and indulge when appropriate. This car might not appeal to the purists - like the current CSL owners but soon I think a lot of the current E46 M3 owners will appreciate this car for what it is. We all don't stay young everyday and at some point of time you need something comfortable while at the same time bring out the child/hooligan in you when appropriate. I think as BMW insisted it has given me the car I wanted. I don't know about the others. Just can't wait to get mine. Last edited by aussiem3; 02-20-2011 at 02:24 AM.. |

OMG!!! More pics of the interior please. The Plantane Wood has been almost hidden up till now.
Want to get a feel for the color, looks more brown. Thought it would be a darker gray. You can see the mirror finish/gloss from the side. I like that aspect.
