Anyone considering F10 M5?
As much as I absolutely love my E93 M3 and as much as I hate to say this - after reading the BMW official press release of the new F10 M5 (including details of the S63tu engine [here]) - I am seriously considering it - I know it would be noticeably faster - but I\'m somewhat fearful I would really miss my M3.
Anyone else seriously considering it (or the F3x M3)? |

Funny to find this thread. I just had a "spirited drive" with an M5 earlier today. That thing was impressive in straight line acceleration 3rd thru 4th gears. we did this twice and I got next to him and gave him the bow. Then he couldn't pass me in a 2 lane, half a mile long sweeping exit that merges with another hwy and by the end he gave me the bow!!!
Anyway, I was on my way to the dealer to fix my rear signal light (I was really hoping the M5 is going to that dealer too but he wasn't) so when I got there and as I was waiting I was looking for any M5, but the dealer had none. I spent my waiting time reading the M5 brochure and thinking, if the 2012 is faster and looks better hmmmmm

I was actually on the list for the car, but when I saw the official specs I decided to pass for now and order the M3. The weight is what killed it for me. I like to take any of my cars, other than my DD to the track and when I saw a 4,200 pound dry weight I just couldn't get over it. My DD is a 2011 550Xi, so I can already go fast in a straight line. I would never think that the 550 and M5 are that comparible, but I will say that my 550 handles like a pig. My E60 535Xi M-sport was so much better in the handling department. I'm sure I will end up buying the new M5 after I drive it, but for now I just felt better about the M3. Anyway, still waiting for my M3 to get here............

Depends on what is important to you? I have both and love them both for different reasons. The M5 is pure brut power and you can feel it, and I know the new model will be even quicker. The M3 is quick and nimble, but I do feel wanting of more when I compare it to the M5. If you are a track guy/gal, then no comparison, the M3 is the winner. I am certainly going to check out the new M5 when it comes out, but will most probably wait to see about the M6 vert!

Rode around the track in an M5. It's very impressive. I'll reserve my opinion when I feel my time is up on this M3. Whatever I decide on it'll have to be another convertible hardtop.

I will buy this car but not the first year. Give em 2-3 MYs to work out all the initial kinks. Don't want to be a guinea pig.

have to agree with this and also would love the M5 in addition to the M3. Talk about a dynamic duo. I can only hope.

The great apeal of the M5 is it's engine, which will easily be tunable to 700+ horsepower. The M5 is also very attractive in every aspect to me but the size is both the main flaw and the deal breaker for me as a contender for my next daily driver in a few years.
