E9x M3 buying guide?

Hello, I was wondering if there's a FAQ of some sort which details what to look out for when buying E9X M3 used? I did not see anything like that stickied or in search. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Since you're from Va, i'll give you some advice when looking at dealers. Don't buy from BMW that's located next to the Ferrari/Lambo dealer in Sterling. They had an 08 M3 with oil sprayed all over the engine bay, coked on, quart low oil indicator flashing after a test drive.

Saleswoman (foreshadowing), asked what I thought of the vehicle.

"This is a no-go, there is oil sprayed all over the engine bay."

Her response, "Well, can you show me? I don't even know what an engine bay is."

I got a GREAT deal at BMW of Fairfax.

EVO magazine (a European publication) did a great used e90/92/93 buyers guide two or three month ago. I picked it up in Amsterdam but left it in the airplane.

A search of their website may uncover it.

Buyers Guide: Euro Delivery, get an individual color and more options then you need.

Then, enjoy life.

US production started in MY08. Nav was upgraded in MY09. Idle Control Valve has been sketchy on 08's (mine was replaced under warranty in 2010). LCI tail lights in _____ (someone help me). Clutch spring in MT's upgraded in 2009 (I removed mine completely - happy with results). ZCP package option introduced in 2010 (someone confirm?) with updated EDC mapping and "non-forged but good-looking rims". Otherwise my 2008 with 43k miles has been rock solid and puts a smile on my face every day. I'll drive till the wheels fall off

edit: DCT is a whole other update that I can't speak for.

I did purchase a few lightly used BMW's and always relied on a BMW complete inspection before the purchase. I would never purchase a used car without this dealer inspection when it was a private deal.

One good write up from another site, this fellow has some excellent points;-

(I will not post the link to the site since this is not ethical). I take no credit for the information / guidelines below. I am simply passing it on for the benefit of the original poster. I thank the original author of this write up.

I will send you a PM so you may go and look it up.

Cheers

UPDATE .... Unfortunately I cannot send you a private message since you have not turned that future on in your USER CP... PM me and I will forward the link.

I'll obviously do a PPI in case of private deal but then there's always a case like the guy stated about BMW dealer....

Sorry, I don't give out my e-mail address, e-mailing you would do just that.

You need to turn on the option in your CP User Section

1) click on "User CP" (above)

then

2) Select "Edit Options"

3) Click on "Enable Private Messaging"

once you done that PM me and I will send you the link.

The link is from another forum and I will NOT post it here.
