PS2 in front, Super Sport in rear?

My rear PS2s are done on my m3. Do you think it would be acceptable to run the new Pilot Super Sport in the rear? Or do you think I should go with PS2s to maintain consisitancy. The size I am considering is 275/35/19. Thanks

I'd get another pair of PS2's, by the time the fronts are worn out your rears will be toast too and you can buy a matching set.

I'd give the fronts a quick measure and check the math on this, but that's my plan as well.

My method only works if you consume the rear tires 2x faster than the fronts. Lots of fun ways to do that.

The PS3 are the replacement of the PS2, if you want a better tire get the PSS.

In the North American market, the PS3 will be available in limited sizes for certain original equipment applications.

The Pilot Super Sport will replace most if not all PS2 sizes, with the bulk of the line arriving in April and May of this year.

I have been told by a Michelin dealer that the Super Sports are the replacement for the PS2. The PS3 is more of a wet weather oriented performance tire. At least that's what I was told.

PS3's seem to be aimed at OEM applications. Available on the new Focus, for instance.

If it's OEM on the new Ford Focus then a PS2 replacement it is NOT!

no problem running two different tires on your car. but if u want to track or drive at the limit then make sure the tires are the same all around. for daily driving, it wont be an issue.

GM sold PS2's on certain Cobalt SS models. The PS3 comes in a handling package available for the Focus. 235/40-18's on 8" rims, bigger than the E36 came with! But that isn't a sport-compact special package or anything like that, so the wear rate of PS2's probably wouldn't go over well with consumers. The biggest difference between the PS2 and the PS3 according to Michelin is wear rate, they claim it's just as good in the dry and better in the wet while lasting longer but I'm not buying that, no free lunch

Can you elucidate on why the tires should be the same if you're driving at the limit/at the track?

I talked to 3 different Michelin people at their booth at the 12 Hours of Sebring yesterday. They all said that the Super Sport is the direct replacement for the PS2, as it does everything the PS2 does while having much better tread life, wet weather performance, and will be priced at or below what the PS2 costs (they basically said that if anyone tries to charge you a premium for the PSS, tell them to go fuck themselves). A big part of the tire's appeal is that it gives 50% better tread life while not being any more expensive or forcing to have you give up performance. Also, they all said (I talked to them individually) that the PS3 is going to be marketed more for the European market and they aren't really promoting it here, hence why they weren't all too informed about it but they were able to say for certain that the PSS is the best tire they offer without stepping up to the Cups. Another thing they all said was PS2 < PSS << PSC.

What sucks is that the PSS doesn't come in a lot of the sizes that the PS2 did. I want to replace the OEM PS2s on my M6 with PSS once they wear out, but there are no matching sizes.

They said that there's only a few sizes out now but many more should be expected later in the year.

Did you try mixing the PS2s fronts with PSSs on the rears?
I'm thinking of doing something similar but am a little cautious...having once run a 911 turbo on different tyres front to back and it was quite unpredictable on full throttle to the point of being scary, while other times with other tyre mixes on 911s its been no problem.
