I change the oil every 5k and not because I drive it hard. Cheap insurance, you can't change it too often.

I track my car pretty hard and do 1 free dealer change and 2-3 DIY's a year....

I've seen horror shows as well. But those were cars that were not driven properly. Meaning, they were driven 2 miles from cold start and then shut off, ect...

I change mine at 7.5k. Always done that on all my BMW's and their engines have been bullet proof.

Thanks for all the input. Went and had my oil changed this morning. Car has 85xx miles.

will my BMW dealership do it at 7500 as part of the maintenance plan or give me a hard time?

my boy owns a shop so i can do the interval ones there but what is the recommended oil to use ?

Dealership will charge you for oil changes between intervals. So yes, they will give you a hard time. Oil is 10w 60. Very hard to find outside of dealerships.

they will do it earlier than 15k miles if it's been a year since the last oil change.the oil is castrol 10w-60 as stated.expensive,but fine stuff.

some kid in my town has a supercharged e46 m3 convt and princeton bmw i think it is, gives him the oil at cost so i can always use him to get it then change it at my buddies shop in between intervals ?

I don't car if the oil is still good, clean oil is always better.
