So your running 17s on your e46? I'm still planning on using my apex 18s. Would like a second set of arc-8s.

Always with the money saving with this guy! Hadn't considered that. You run 355mm stoptechs and they clear?

Lol...I'm all about lowering costs. I'll be running a 12mm spacer so don't run out and buy them yet based on my experience. Apex told me that I would need a small spacer (5mm-ish?). If I went with 5mm then I'd need to install hub extenders. Been through that...PIA. So I'll just go with what is effectively an et22 which should fit. Right now, I run 275/35R18s on 18x10 et25 Apex wheels.

You can run 17x10 et 25 if you are anti-spacer. The total weight comes out to be about the same and is cheaper than 17x9.5s + spacers.

The ONLY reason I went with 17x9.5s is I have the option to stretch 255/40R17s onto them if I decide to go into NASA TTB. Saves me 4 mod points.

A set of 275/35R18 NT01s = $1039/set shipped
A set of 275/40R17 NT01s = $856/set shipped

Savings: $183/set
Savings per year (3 sets) = $549

I have 17's on my 335 as well, they are dirt cheap. Cheaper than 18's by a wide margin.

Just got 3 warranty replacements for spliced tires...free! The 4th was spliced and corded so I assumed its not eligible for a warranty.

The last set of 18s and the current set of 17s I have are not spliced. I think Nitto fixed the issue.

Meanwhile, I just had my second set of Toyo Proxes RRs mounted. New design, good tire so far. 20 heat cycles out of the first set--not bad for a 40-treadwear DOT R-comp.

I hope so! I just mounted a set dated CEH1513, so fairly recent. Oregon Raceway Park this weekend, and then next event is probably Laguna Seca for OFest.

Also, unrelated... Swapped over to Pagid RS19s, and OMG, they squeal so bad. I should have waited to do the pad swap until the 4th. Yikes!!

The ones I just returned are 3212s. I'm pretty sure that most of the spliced tires came from around that vintage.

As I said, I've been through 8 more NT01s, 1 friend that just finished off a set of 4, one still running another set, no splicing between the 16 tires I've looked at.

That's odd about the pagid yellows. Sometimes they squeal, sometimes they don't.

It's ok--I run my Pagid RS29s full-time all summer long for maximum garbage truck/city bus effect. It just tells people, "Because racecar."

What's really alarming, though, is when you pull into the dealer for scheduled maintenance and they say to you, "Do you hear your brakes? We should really take a look at those."

I still have 1 nt01 on my car that is spliced. Not very bad. Funny thing is I noticed a similar small splice in my ad08 as well. Must be the m3s, they eat tires.

Just thought I'd give a quick update that my replacement nt01's have not had any splices. I just flipped them on the rim to get a couple more days out of them. Looks like nitto has fixed the manufacturing defect.

Do a lot of you guys do that? Flip so the grooves are towards the outer shoulder instead of standard? Mine seem to be wearing pretty evenly across the face so might not be needed.

Update from me as well. NT01s dated 1513 and after thirteen 25 minutes sessions I have nice even wear and no discernible splice lines.

Separate note, 3" ducting, Motul RBF 660, and Pagid RS19's are a formidable braking combination on a warm and sunny day, with zero brake fade, and dental work removing braking power - on stock calipers!!

Update on my warranty claims process:

- (of 5 NT01's,) 3 developed splices - 2 were bought from local tuning shop (actually, 4) and 1 from local independent tire shop;

- warranty claims process on the 1 tire thru local tire shop started in early December of 2012 and, while Nitto says they approved refund/credit in early April of 2013, this tire shop has yet to concur;

- re: the other 2 tires, rather than taking them to the local tuning shop I bought'em from, took'em on Tuesday to local America's Tires store (aka Discount Tire in other parts of the country), who promptly called Nitto's customer service and got the refund/credit approved within 15 minutes arriving there! Ordered a set of 4 NT01's before leaving the store.

Apparently, as of around 2 weeks ago, Steve no longer works at Nitto, and was replaced by Dorine who simply rocks! She is much more forthcoming with info and is actually proactive. She's the one who advised me to just take the other 2 tires to Discount/America's Tire. And, *bam* refund/credit approved.

I somehow missed this thread until now and went ahead and got a set of NT01's to run. These will be my first experience with r-comp tires and I haven't run them yet. But the attached picture is what mine look like still fresh from being mounted.

Am I going to have troubles?
