Is it true that a new M3 is actually cheaper than a used one?

I know this guy that has tons of experience with M3s and BMW, and his advice to me was to get a new M3, or one that has less than 15K miles on it. Reason being is that the maintenance is expensive and also a big reason why most people abandon their cars at around 30-45K miles. He went to add that it makes little difference in savings whether you go used or new, since it all pretty much evens out, so might as well get a new one. Can anyone back this up?

This is not true. The depreciation on a brand new M3 is going to far outweight the cost of regular maintenance after 50,000 miles.

Your friend is on some good $hit... please ask him what it is and post it.

Anyways, as mentioned above, the depreciation value just driving off the lot with a new vehicle can cover lots of regular maintenance on a used one with no warranty.

Perfect example on how some people have absolutely no common sense.

Geez, I feel bad that the OP is in SF and post these ridiculous posts. It makes the rest of us San Francisco people look bad. How many cars have you owned? Are you young/inexperienced?

Even if you pay full dealership price for service, it will be way cheaper than the depreciation from a new car. The M3 loses about $8-10k a year in depreciation within the first 3 years. I doubt your yearly maintenance will be $10K a year.

OP, don't be so naieve, don't believe everything you hear... and think about what you're saying before posting it on a public forum. This should have been something really straight forward for you to figure out on your own!!!

Basic common sense will get you out of a lot of financial problems. Sounds like you're someone really easy to take advantage of. Sorry for the harsh criticism but sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade.

"fong pi" in Mandarin Chinese literally translates to "passing gas" or "to fart".

It is used as slang to mean "full of hot air" or "bullshitting".

From most of OP's posts it certainly seems like "fongpi".

lol enough abusing the guy.

Ive seen pre-owned M's for sale for 60k though. so if you look at it as you can get a new one at invoice at 65k its WORTH spending the extra 5k sometimes. but it is not "cheaper" than buying a pre-owned one. cause you are saving 5k lets say. but it possibly can make more sense.
