Difference between CIC screen type

Hi guys,

I am looking to upgrade my CCC system to CIC system. I am currently browsing about the used CIC system from auction sites as well as in this forums.

I noticed that there are 2 different kind of LCD screens:
1. With clear plastic in front of the LCD screen (see pic 1)
2. Without clear plastic in front of the LCD screen (see pic 2)

What is the difference? Are they actually identical in functions but just different types?
FYI, my current system on my 2008 M3 RHD is CCC and it has the one with plastic screen in front of the LCD.
Please kindly give me some info guys!

Cheers!
Josh

Same thing.

All of the CCCs had the plastic covering.

The CICs did at the beginning and then around 2011 they didn't have it.

I prefer the ones without the plastic.

They are two different types for the most part. In the early 09 productions were switched to CIC with HD screens, however the screens still had a plastic housing. They removed the plastic housings in 2010 and on. The true way to tell the difference is to look at the back of the screen. CIC shows a metal backing while the CIC shows a black plastic housing.

Let's try that again?

FYI, that first pic is from my Ebay Ad

The display is from a 2011, I put the plastic shield on it because I used the "open" one for my NBT retrofit.

Also, if you need the CIC Navigation unit itself, let me know and I can help you out with a package deal.

Does it matter CIC for RHD or LHD?

Thank you so much guys for the replies.
Very helpful.

I once had a friend bought the one without the screen and bought second hand from auction. It has smudges that you can not just wiped. Something like 'flaking'.

Anyhow -- allow me to ask next question:
Does it matter or different between CIC system for a Right Hand Drive and Left Hand Drive car?
Mine is Right Hand Drive and can I buy the system from US market?

Thanks guys!

Is it easy to add the plastic shield to a 2011 display? Do you have any tips / instructions?

Just undo the 4 screws on the back, remove and replace shield.

I actually want to do the opposite - removing the plastic shield.
So just to confirm, if I would like to remove the plastic shield for good -- that can be done by removing the 4 screws at the back.
Is that correct?

Yes but you'll have to replace it with the cover that does not have the clear plastic.
