Thumbs down Think Twice b4 Updating iOS "My BMW Remote"

I use the My BMW remote iOS app about every few days to search and send destinations to the iDrive/SatNav.

Today, just received the "Updates" from iOS and decided to thoroughly read the changes. At the near-bottom of the seven paragraphs of info is this one:
- The Remote Door Unlock feature is being updated to a more secure process of performing a remote door unlock. It now requires a call to BMW Assist in order to remotely unlock the vehicle's door. The benefit is reduced unintentional activations."

Uh...so, this means that the feature has been deactivated, basically, because you would need to call BMW Assist. Right? So why even have the function appear on the phone?

This doesn't make sense. Anyone have a different interpretation?

The app use to have air venting control too, but they removed that some time ago. Now this? Its BS if you ask me.

Thanks for the heads up!

Once I was in a big hurry to catch a flight because of a traffic wreck that blew away the 30 minutes of emergency drive time reserve. Screamed into a parking spot at IAH and ran to the check-in. Then ... wasn't sure if I had locked the car or not. So just pulled up the app and set it to "lock."

The problem with that is the app states that remote locking does not activate the alarm, but that seemed the lesser of two evils:
  • unlocked car with no alarm potential
  • locked car with no alarm for sure.

So it's been handy, instead of having anxiety for ten days about the unlocked vehicle.

I can't lock or unlock with the old version anymore. But I can send directions to my nav.

EDIT:
False alarm. I signed out and back in and now lock and unlock work again with the old version.

Really? Why would they remove that? That'd be quite useful when you don't know when you'll be returning to your car on a hot day and can't set the parked car vent. timer(s) accordingly.
