Does "on the road" mean no options or well optioned or fully optioned?

$60,506 USD

I left the details of how I came up with the base MSRP in US dollars in another thread, but based on your UK number our US NO OPTION M3 would come in at $60,506. Too much in my opinion, given that reasonable option package totals on this car are likely to run between 8 and 15K.

Too much money for an M3 when a base 911 is at that territory.

Base 911 is in low $70's. With reasonable options, you're looking at $78-80. this is still $10-15 above a reasonably equipped M3 assuming it prices out in the mid-to-high $60's.

Possibly you may be able to get a reasonably well optioned M3 for less than 70K. Even still, I don't think the value of the new M3 will be within 10 to 15K of a brand new 997. Just too expensive for what you're getting from Bavaria.

I haven’t read your other post, and I’m sure you used a good formula/rationale for coming up with your number, though I doubt it will be accurate. Euro and UK prices ALWAYS differ from the USD, and I really don’t think there’s an accurate # or % to use since that varies too.

I tried to compare the USD to Euro pricing on the Audi RS4 to get a rough idea on where the m3 will eb priced, based on the % difference in the RS4 to the USD in Euro and came up with a number of around $56K.

Pure speculation at this point.

Just found this link in another thread. Looks like C/D agrees with my 60k USD estimate.

My SA just called from Southern California (I am in Paris on business) stating that they are getting their allocation now for December 2007 delivery.

Almost here!

I do agree with you that the $60 base USD price does not sound right but in general using a ratio of known prices does work fairly closely. I did this with the RS4 and M5 and it was quite close. Using this method with the RS4 gives $66k though not $56k (because the RS4 is $66k in the US and the price we have heard in Brittish pounds for the car is almost exactly what the RS4 is in pounds). I´m still betting on high $50k USD.

My salesperson says December 2007 for start of US production, not delivery. Figure February-March, which is what C&&D says, as well.

this forum is replete with examples very clearly illustrating that you can never compare bmw sale prices from country to country by doing a simple monetary unit conversion. bmw enjoys very different profit margins from country to country.

i don't put any stock in any of the numbers discussed here in this thread.

Completely agree. Saw a Car & Driver issuse that said the same thing. Not even worth trying to compare.
