I don't have DCT, but why did you turn DSC off ? Leave it on man. Wheelspin doesn't launch you any quicker. Launch control is supposed to just add enough wheelspin for an optimal launch; turning DSC off shouldn't be needed, as it might save a car turning sideways. I doubt BMW didn't take that into consideration. Try it.

How about when you floor your car on MDM, what happens? do you get a good launch?

I just don't like using launch control. I've done it three times in the past 2.5 years. One of the times was actually last week!! It was very fun and the car turns into a bigger beast, but I just don't like the feeling of dumping the clutch at 4500 rpm or whatever it is. I'll never do it again, unless my dad wants to see what it is.

thats the weird part, if i do just floor it past the click in MDM, the rpms will jump to 4k and itll take off and itll be a perfect launch, no wheelspin, no dsc intervention, no wheel hop

then on the flipside, if DSC off and i floor it, theres no wheelhop, the wheels just spin and i do a massive burnout

what confuses me is why launch control all of a sudden causes wheel hop. if anything, shouldnt it be similar to dsc off flooring and just do a burnout?

Hmmm. Something is not right here. May be your LC software needs some "refreshing". To be honest, since you'll be using LC very rarely if any (it's not practical for on-the-spot take off). as long as flooring it in MDM and DSC-off work fine, I'd just let it go and may be try it again after one of those routine flash softwears that BMW give us every now and then.

i think thats just what im going to do. to be honest, i never even planned on using it more than a few times, its just a bummer that i held out for 7k miles thinking it would be some spectacular thing that just turned into my differential bouncing a few times

im having other issues with the car as seen here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=375751&page=2

maybe if this persists and i take it in for that, ill have them do a launch too to see what the deal is with that. waahhh poor m3 she was perfect up until 2 days ago

Why don't you just do that instead ? With several differential bolts breaking off on these cars, I honestly wouldn't keep experimenting.

I do not think they are saying you broke something. I think they are saying that if you keep trying this that something is bound to break. I know the feeling OP that you just want to get one sucessful run on this. I also believe your driving habits are beign recorded on the onboard computer but I could be wrong on this statement.

In theory it should actually be better than that since LC supposedly has its own DSC routine that minimizes spin, whereas just mashing the gas with DSC OFF you are basically getting no help from DSC at all. In practice, though, it doesn't necessarily play out like that. It isn't clear why. I think sameh's theory might hold some water - that some versions of the software "broke" DSC. It could also be road surface, temperature, tire temp, etc, assuming you are not trying these experiments back to back from the exact same spot.

But generally speaking, it seems that BMW's launch control just isn't necessarily that good. I mean, it technically works - it allows you to launch the car from a high RPM, but many folks find that just mashing the gas in MDM mode (not so much DSC OFF, though that of course will work too) yields better results.

I'll say that it works pretty good for me. At the drag strip, I got my best results using LC, and when I use it on the street I don't typically get any hop. Of course I have an E93 which is heavier than a coupe, and I also don't have EDC nor MDM (no MDrive). So that's a lot of variables that could explain why I have more success than others.
