I received a follow up from the installer who is doing the diagnostics on this kit. I am told the car has been running without an air filter and has been sucking unfiltered air direct into the blower. The hose connecting the filter assembly to the blower was removed from the vehicle at some point or was never installed. The connection from the blower to the manifold also was not secured properly which would cause a severe boost leak.

The Images I received do confirm that debris have not only damaged the blower but have built up inside the manifold as a result of operating without the filter. This blower will need to be repaired by Vortech and the motor will need to be inspected to see if any damage was done. Once all of this this is fixed and the kit is re-installed the installer will report back with an update.

I am surprised that anyone inspecting the kit previous would not notice that the air filter assembly was not connected and that the blower had internal damage.

Installer notes and pictures are below.

"The supercharger compressor wheel/housing is damaged from debris impact and must be rebuilt or replaced as result.

The intake manifold has a significant build up of abrasive particulate, IE sand.

The manifold should be washed out, this can only be the result of a missing air filter.

The silicon hose between the compressor and manifold was not properly clamped on the compressor side allowing boost leak, customer stated that boot was recently removed for testing."

Wow! Considering the buildup on the ITB (or is that the compressor intake??), I wonder how much cylinder wall scaring there is.

hot damn i knew Cory would find the problem but didn't expect to see this

1) I'm bit confused ..... why in the world would you drive your car without and air filter

2) judging by the look of the fins that blower has been sucking up debree for a long time

3) when did you last perform a leak down and compression test ? i would be extremely surprised to see the motor passing successfully after seeing these photo's !

Good Luck brotha & you should perform a leakdown and compression test again (while cory has the car ) ......

hope your motor is ok

BTW who installed your kit ??

Im sending out the blower tomorrow to vortec to get it rebuilt, getting the Mani cleaned out.Further diagnostics are being performed by Corry at the same time. so basically the whole kit is coming off and getting re-installed properly.
Also i will try to get the OPs approval to perform a leak down and comp test done while everything is off the car although i know that he mentioned that VAC Motorsports just performed all of that but at this point Corry and I are having doubts about the work or diagnostics that were performed to solve a boost leak and not seeing whats inside the mani.
Will keep this thread updated !

Wow, that's some serious damage. How were all the listed tests performed and no one noticed an improperly installed hose and all this damage?

Car already got a leakdown and compression tested - but as IMG said the time it spent at VAC is questionable. It has only been driven to dyno and to Cory otherwise it just sat without a filter. Filter was mounted and connected previously and VAC never reinstalled the filter hose after removing to see if it was a "intake restriction".

I did the original install over a year ago, and meth was installed by Redline Speed Worx since I didn't want to mess with it who used a 335 bracket for the meth which places the pump in the way of the filter tubing but the tube still fits under it. It would be ideal for Cory to move that meth bracket and pump somewhere out of the way

As I said in one my original posts the problem came up after we swapped to the new air filter ESS provided since this kit was shipped to us without one and it took ESS a while to send one.

As far as the SC hose not being clamped on, it was clamped on and the clamp was starting to slide off. We actually looked at that with Cory when we were droppping the car off to him, as well as point out the missing filter tube. I also told him that i saw nicks on the compressor wheel of the charger, I did not know if they will be enough to lose alot of boost since I looked at them with a camera and they looked tiny.

Either way I am glad it's in good hands now and I hope he figures out the rest of the issues when the charger comes back. Once its back together we'll do a trip to Atco and see what it can do.
