PSS are better in the wet than their predecessors so I would want to know the tread depth on those PSS tires he had and how fast was he going. You can Darwin yourself in any car in the rain.

No one said that PSS's were hydro-plane proof if you're going fast enough

The driver hits the brakes before getting squirmy. That might not have helped either.

Doesn't matter how good the tire is, the larger factor is the amount of rain on the road! By the look of it, it looks like there was a lot of water on the road.

Also when driving in rain, IMO I feel that driving left or right of the middle part of the lane helps. The reason being, because 80% of the cars drive in the middle of lane, you get a little indentation in the road where the cars' tires have been driving on and when it is raining water accumulates in the indentation which increases your chance of hydroplaning.

^It might be common sense, but just thought I would share.

it also depends on how much water is on the road and not drained...

Yes, plus that was in Northern Europe. Would like to know what temp it was outside.

I like to follow in the tracks of the vehicle in front...he has already shifted most of the water off that part of the road.

Wrong, a change in speed of ~3 mph, slower or faster, will stop the hydroplaning.

the driver must have missed all his science classes.

Show me a tire in this world does not aquaplan with that much water on the road
