Daily driven M3/C63 vs. 997.2/C6 Z06 weekend car

I just want to get your guys point of view. I'm married with 2 kids so a 2 seater would not be driven often. I track a few times a year. My wife's car would do the family duties. Would you rather,

Daily drive your E90 M3/C63. Commute is short and often do short errands around the city. I would get more use out of the car.

or

Have a 997.2 S or C6 Z06 as a weekend car and use a truck as a daily driver with a short commute. Car's won't be driven much but it would be a blast.

Which would you guys pick? Budget is <55k for a car.

I just mentioned the same thing in another thread. I track my E90 monthly. And with a kid on it's in July. I have zero regrets with my E90. Also, don't know if you can get a 997.2 for under $55k.

neither one is ideal if you are tracking much, ask me how i know, i am experiencing this right now (tracking with a *relatively* expensive car)

however, i would say id probably go with an m3/c63 in your case. on public roads its really hard to get the most out of something like a z06.

If the ///M3 e92 would not be so much fun I would be driving a 2 seater like a Porsche, Z4, a Benz 350 SLK or a Corvette ... I often think about that since 99% of the time I am the only one in my ///M3 ... on the other side of the coin ... on a nice day open both windows on my e92 and enjoy the sound and the fresh air what better way to travel I ask ... How do the Italian's say ... Forget about it ... so I soon forget about the 2 seater idea

Driving a truck isn't my first choice as a dd but someone is letting me drive theirs so I can't complain. I currently drive a E39 M5 which I still like but I'm worried about the future repair/maintenance of a 10 year old car and I'm getting an itch for something different. I'm still have a little ways before I pick up my next car but the enthusiast in me is thinking about it now, haha. Time is on my side in terms of buying a used car but it's against me driving one

You only live once. Do you want to spend the majority of your week driving a truck or an M3?

You are on an M3 forum, so most will likely say to go with the e90, and I would also agree. I initially thought my M was going to be a weekend car, but I'm having too much fun driving it every day... If you need more power you can always supercharge it!

I was in the same boat and chose to go with the fun DD. However I was tired of sedans and really wanting something that looked good too so all of my fun DD candidates were coupes (M3, S5, C63 and Maserati GT). My kids are 9 and 5 and actually prefer the kid-cave in the back; I'd be less enthusiastic if I were loading baby carriers tho...

just remember, no regrets. good luck!

Depending on how often you have passengers or your kids with you, I think I'd rather do the 997 or the Z

Wow, I think this is a first. M3 has better gas mileage than something else. What does the C63 get?

I just wrote a long response to another poster asking about a new Cayman S vs. the M3.

Long story short... I sold me special ordered Carrera S a few years ago when we were blessed with a son. Have an Audi A6 wagon as a daily driver, minivan that my mom (our child care) uses daily and when I decided to get another "fun" car now that my son is old enough to be in a forward facing seat I chose a used E90 M3. It doesn't handle as well as the P car (or the Z06 you asked about) but the practicality and the ability to take my son with me are worth their weight in gold.
