M3 without the Dome

Did anyone see the latest issue of BMW magazine? The feature article is on the new M3 and for some reason it was decided to feature the M3 sedan on the cover without the powerdome (looks like it was brushed out). IMO, the car looks much better without the hideous dome.... Here's an idea -BMW should allow buyers to delete the powerdome at no cost, like the rear spoiler deletion option when ordering the M5. This would make a lot of people very happy. It may even garner more sales.

I too hate the dome, but you can't delete it because it isn't there for cosmetic reasons ... the engine won't fit w/out it.

one of the two vents on the powerdome hood is fake, but as was previously mentioned, the powerdome is necessary to fit the cover on the V8. i think it looks cool and is a distinctive mark for the m3.

power dome is functional, not just aesthetics.

I think the dome is here to stay =P

You are probably right. But BMW should de-dome the dome, if you know what I mean.

You mean bulge the whole hood, instead? That would NOT look good.

I like it. The dome with the vents on either side reminds me of a '98 Cobra Mustang I had for 7 years, and further distinguishes the M3 from the 335.

Having tested the car 4 times and spent several hours behind the steering wheel I can definitely say that the I cannot digest such a massive view of power dome from the inside. Outside is ok... but, imho from the inside the view is way to obstructed by it.

Were such an option to exist, I would have plummed for it. Seen from the side with the bonnet open, the dome accommodates the airbox very snugly. The would have to redesign the engine to change the bonnet.

Ok, I was just kidding.

I actually like the dome as it is. Think it gives it nice prowess and since its functional you can joke about the engine being such a beast it is trying to break out of the engine bay.

I have this magazine also and the m3 on the cover looks like a mini m5 to me. I like the power bulge, gives the m3 a little more attitude, I wish they would have added the bulge to the m5.

I didn't notice today during a test drive today, would driver height have anything to do with it? I'm 6' 3" possibly might annoy people sitting lower in the car

I think it is subtle and give you a constant visual reminder of the monster that lives under the domed hood. All the other M elements on the exterior of the car (except the mirrors) are out of view from the drivers POV.

It could be worse....

I prefer function to form, so it's a good thing. Like deleting fog lights on this car because it needs the air flow.

The power dome is functional, its not there for you to love or hate, its there because its needed.
