We have 98RON here (slightly higher octane than your 93 from memory) so I don't think it would be that

I know of another local 2011 E90 that did the exact same thing as mine last year.

Yes, I had my car since new. Serviced by BMW at the normal intervals. I did a lot of driving the first couple of years so they were pretty regular.

With Oxymorons car that makes 4 Australian failures I have info for.
2 Supercharged cars....1 main bearing fail, 1 uncertain
2 NA cars....1 main bearing fail, 1 uncertain.
Appears that all cars are from hot/warm climates....is there any other type of climate in Australia?

Define "cold?"

In Southern California, we're bitching about 65 F being a high, while others parts of the country would be happy with a high of 45 F.

Is it crank bearing failure related to rod bearing failure. Or are the rod bearings fine and the crank bearings bad?

You can add 1 more to the registry. This month's "Boston Bimmer" (Volume 46, No. 2) has a story with pictures about a CCA member who had his rod bearings go out on his 2008 M3 e90 at 94k miles. The guy ended up ordering a new engine from Germany through a local dealership. I don't believe Boston Bimmer is available electronically so no link to the story. BB is the local chapter's magazine they mail out to CCA members.

Currently waiting to hear what the 3rd party warranty company is going to do about it...
Good luck with the warranty company. Hope they do the right thing.

I don't see contact info on the Boston Bimmer site. Maybe you could shoot an email to the author with a link to this thread. It may help the owner get some money or help from BMW.

Have you guys also figured out why some evaporators are failing, maybe it's the wrong brand of freon causing the problem, or maybe some people are using their AC too hard?

No abnormal ticking or rattle noises .
Sounds good to me !
Best thing for video is to take the cam close to driver side front wheel and rev it slowly up to 3K rpm's ,and with engine in operating temperature !

Add another one here...2013 E93 with 15000 miles. Always let it get through cold start, never been launched. Engine being replaced under warranty.

Nope. None at all. Car was running just fine, but the engine did lock up about 2 weeks before and the car turned off and left me stranded on the side of the road. After some digging, they found that the alternator had shorted out and they replaced the battery. During that same procedure they did an oil service on my car since it was due, and this happened about 2 hours after I picked it up from the dealer. They also mentioned that my crankcase seal had blown and was leaking.

That's really a strange situation..
Because most BF starts with abnormal slight ticking or rattle noises , and when it gets worse the louder the noises become .
They also get louder when rpm's get higher but always synchronous with the rpm's .
And you only 2 hours after replacing a battery and an oil change...It's really unbelievable !
But what happened exactly at the moment of the BF ? Noises...smoke from under engine bay ect....?
But personal I think that your problem started 2 weeks before the BF when your S65 did lock up , this sounds not normal to me...because 2 weeks later your engine blew .

No smells, no crazy sounds. Engine started running really hot, tach was bouncing, and shifts were lagging almost like the transmission was just not engaging. Very strange.

What an alarming thread/topic about S65...

I guess I'll have to record an engine test sound and share it with you guys. I still don't know if we can do anything to prevent this from happening.

The time between hearing a rod bearing start to make a ticking noise and the bearing expiring is extremely short often approaching zero.
Imagine hitting a soft metal faced bearing with a piece of metal hard enough that you could hear the sound over the rest of an engine and then consider just how long that bearing will last....especially when the sound is being created by the force of a piston being banged down by a 50bhp combustion explosion.

I know, but this depends of the situation , some run just very hot and lock up without any warning noises ,or went just boom at + 100 mph.. and that really scares !
Personal I think it's all about "Sentience" most people don't have it !

For example..long story in short..
I received a video with a very slight rattle noise ,So I said stop driving your car and call ASAP your BMW/Dealer .
The guy said to me... I can hear nothing...
A week later ... you can imagine the situation , he had BF !
This depends also how the car was driven after the the first slight rattle...how much , and with what kind of rpm's .
Also how long was the slight rattle there , before someone could hear it....ect .

The main reason for this case was that the guy was still young and his financial situation was not the best , because he was still study ect...
Sadly the car was also out of warranty , so perforce he sold the car with BF !
Of course he asked to keep this situation private , the guy was crying ...he really loved the car , and said maybe later I will buy another ///M3,and next time I will listen to you...
Indeed....Heart-breaking circumstances , and I can tell you...I know what is going on , and that's why you can see often my angry reactions/comments against BMW !
