I always say no LEOs = chaos, and hating on LE is small-minded. They will tell you, some LEOs are there to issue you as much ticket as they can defend, every time, and let the prosecutor do what she can with the charge. They're not being judgemental or aggressive, it's just their job to do it, so they do it. Others are risk-focused.

For Canadians travelling to the States, the "Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device" is like a plea made in heaven. First of all, PA, NY, Michigan and Ohio share traffic violations with Ontario. So if you are caught speeding, it will go on your record. (don't even get me started about the consequences to your insurance once they find out). If you get caught speeding, plea (or ask the officer) to give you a "Disobeying ... " ticket. If not, got to court and try to fight for it. This ticket will not go on your record. FYI: 50km/h over the limit in Ontario will give you 7day impoundment of your car. Roadside 30 day (I think) licence suspension, and a charge of "Dangerous Driving" which carries with it a Criminal Record. Not worth it. Good luck. |

Best friend went to jail a couple years back for 145 in a 55. He was in his 135i racing his father-in-law's 300zx TT. Fought it in court and got it dismissed but had legal fees, impound fees, and a night in jail.
His father in law did not pull over and used the money he saved to upgrade to a GT500 and mods. I tend to speed conservatively. Meaning I generally cruise at 10 over but occaisionally go 120-130+ if I have clear sight and am 99% sure there are no cops. I only got pulled over once in my e46 M3. I drifted across four lanes to merge into traffic, in front of a state trooper. I pulled over when I saw her turning around, before the lights were even on. Before she had even pulled over my license, insurance, and reg were in my hand out the window. She walked up to the car and say "I suppose I don't have to tell you why I pulled you over. Was there any reason for that?" My reply was "no ma'am, just being a jackass." I got a warning. |
