chinese had a deal with vw and audi very long time ago, that they can manufacture VW & audi cars IN china, city like ChangChun and Shanghai. So there is no tariff for cars like jetta, passat, A4, most A6. and Other cars like CC, Touarge, S4,S5,S6,A8,S8,R8 are imported

btw, most 3 series sedan, and 5series are manufactured in China too. not include like 550i

I just got here to Shanghai and I can't believe how different people drive here. They're crazy and go everywhere. I would not want to drive my car or a m3 anywhere near here.

I am living in Shanghai by the way and you really have to be a baller to afford a M3. I just bought my 325i for 58k USD (taxes inclusive) but prior to getting a shanghai license plate which will run about 4k-6k USD at the current prices. This added together is roughly the price of a M3 in the states. note that my 325i came pretty much bone stock w/o anything(no options can be chosen), i got the MT version which comes as is direct from Germany rather than the locally assembled BMWs

- moon roof, at least it has this
- no power seats
- no leather seats
- no navigation option
- no trims options/any other options

if you think that sux, the aftermarket parts are also more expensive here compared to the states

here are the list prices in china for the M3's. Note that you can most likely get a 10% discount on the list price, but you have to pay a 10% tax or so on top of the list price. + that 4-6k USD license plate for Shanghai. exchange rate is about 1 USD to 6.83 RMB

M3 Sedan RMB 1,066,000

M3 Coupé RMB 1,100,000

M3 Convertible RMB 1,200,000

Back to topic. M3's are pretty sick. I drove one of the M3's in the pix, pretty much made up my mind to get the 325i instead of dragging my feet because of the ridiculously expensive prices (or it can be seen that the US has ridiculously cheap cars)

M3 in china is surprisingly cheaper then buying one in HK... but you cant get the coupe with CF roof in china

So i rather buy it in HK and mount HK/China plates on it and drive in both places

I heard buying cars in China is completely different.

In US you have many choices in buying/leasing & you can finance it.

In China you have to buy the car outright. There are no financing options.

LoL, Rowland Heights just has a lot of bad drivers, but it's still a bit different than here.

The worst part about driving here are the pedestrians and bikers who pop out of no where. i call them ninjas, be wary of ninjas when u drive out here.

Does that license plate fee have to be paid every year as well? Any importers importing M3's or just the dealerships

So they tax them like they do in other Asian countries by engine displacement size.
