Made my own exhuast....

This is mainly for fun.. I will be getting a new system soon.. from Borla....

I took the eise off because it just wasnt loud enough for me... and using the stock pipes i cut for the eise... i built this...

I might use the exhaust i built for track days only.. once i get my Borla...

Ive really been wanting to hear what a single tip design would sound like.. so i built it.... the 4 massive tip designs from every company looks pretty good.. but a 3 inch single exhaust will flow 600hp easy.. so theres plenty of 'room' if you will inside.. with my design....

a while back a buddy build an exhaust for his cup car.. having the pipes come together as one right before the tip.. and the sound was incredible.. that 'F1' style high pitch roar... so i tried for this sound..

im waiting now for my buddy who is a very good welder to cover up my horrible tak welds and put it all together... then i will paint this flat black with high temp paint...

it will be on and running tonight....

Im not a welder.. or a fabber.. but i would like to learn as much as i can... so here is what i did.. every tak weld.. every cut pipe.. grinded.. so forth..... built the thing from scratch..... by me...

the materials...

Two 2.5 inch pipes with curves..

a 2.5inch to 3 inch expander..

a 3inch race muffler..

and the final... takd up... ready to be completely welded and installed....

im still waiting on a back ordered part that will be my tip.. right now the end is about 1 inch too short...

i plan to use a expander design... for a flared tip....

raw material cost for me was about 160 bucks...

Your making the exhaust a straight pipe with only the back right side as your tip?

So your going from Dual sided to one sided and leaving the back left side an empty hole?

If you're going to do this why not do what another member did here and at least keep it dual sided. Someone else posted a custom made exhaust that at least was dual sided and actually looked quite nice. I think it cost him around 200 or 300 if I am guessing right.

No offense but if you're not keeping it dual and leaving the back left side empty it's a tad on the ugly side. (just my opinion)

EDIT--- LOL I was so shocked by the pictures I just went back and read why you did this.

i think leaving the left side open is ugly for sure...

but with a single tip design.. there isnt another option....

Sure there is... just weld on a bent piece of metal with a dummy tip attached for the other side

I've seen several riced-out dual-exhaust old Hondas down here... one exhaust tip filthy black, the other shiny and clean, lol.

I wonder if that will pass noise regs at LRP???....

Good job, Leh, and good for you for breaking out the welder and having some good 'ole fun fabricating something. It's about 12degrees here now and I miss spending time in the garage...

Now put that mind to some great use and figure out a good way for us to duct the brakes!!!

Be good,
TomK

Um, maybe this wasn't such a good idea, because next to a straight pipe, the Borla won't produce but a whimper (I have the Borla on my car and I think it's plenty loud, just about perfect IMO)

that will be perfect then.. because at that time. im sure i will be tired of the loudness...

we finished it up last night.. and the thing im most suprised about is its not that bad at all from inside the car... drone from 1500 to 2400... but at 3 k.. its smooooth and no drone.... which is weird because seems like 2800 to 3k is a drone hotspot for these cars...

it doesnt have the note i was looking for.. but i still havent heard it over 6k from outside the car.. but it def sounds pretty bad A... if it was an American car.. the sound would fit it perfect!..

gona play with it some more.. prob take a vid or 2....

that sounds awsome, and not THAT loud in my opinion. if you could make it a dual exhaust, I think it will be as good as many branded exhausts.

Sounds really good for a simple setup.
I wonder if doing the same but dual pipe would sound like.

You gotta go dual since we have dual outlet in the bumper.

Youtube reduces the video quality by alot, but if you whatch it in high quality option, its not bad at all.

it actually sounds pretty good... the tone is great but hows the volume? is it unbearably loud?
