I'd keep it really, if you sell the car you might want to return it to stock and you would sell your after market exhaust much easier.

So what's the EPA notice, did you get pulled over or was it a public servant hiding behind a tree?
What are the implications in Victoria?
What exhaust system did you have on.
We don't have those here yet but I believe there are random roadside pull in and checks.

You are exactly right, a very good reason to keep a stock system in storage also.

What a waste of resources, I'm sure it will be the same everywhere soon.

Someone else down in Vic got EPA's too, and I think the noise limits were higher for an M3 with a tolerence of 5dB, with a specific ADR for the M3. Might be worth following through in case you are subjected to the standard ADR which is around 92dB, from memory this went out to 97dB with the tolerance taken into account

thanks Dave i am going to stick the std exh on and take it back to them i dont think that exh is 5db higher then merc 63 but that what you get with cop trying to clean up the street to a point they sense goes out off they head

passenger vehicle manufacture before 1 november 1983 =96db
after 1 november 1983 is 90db so i dont know Ferrari, Aston, etc get compliant plate
anyway have to be done

OK Ausfredy, here you go, this has been researched by another forum member here and here are the goods: so you are good for 97dB

Ok all. After a complaint to EPA, I've received the following test specifications for the e92 M3. It'll come in useful if you ever get pulled up and the stupid testers don't know squat about M cars.

Maximum Permissible Noise Level: 92db
Tested at: 6225 rpm

As the e92 M3 is designed to meet ADR83/00 noise limits, it also allows for a 5db(a) tolerance for exhaust system deterioration.
