4sevens: My pleasure - glad you like it. I'm sure it's even more fun with your ESS kit.

Was playing around with MDM mode today in the rain - absolutely LOVE it.

The wet surface really helps in showing how much better it is than the US version.

As an example, pulling out of a parking lot I got on it a bit. Normally when the wheels slip at all it would abruptly close the throttle. But with Euro MDM it held the RPM there and prevented them from rising, and then it let me rip. It sounded really cool too, and no tire noises keep the police away

In the wet you can really feel some wobble action as it lets you step out slightly.

You can just keep the gas planted and it's like the car drives itself through water. Next mod will be driving over water

Euro MDM definitely allows more slip angle than US MDM, which I found too intrusive. DSC off is still preferred, but I find Euro-MDM to be just as fast because it rarely intervenes.

MDM: Encouraging leadfoot driving habits rather than requiring people to learn actual driving technique.

That's true about MDM in the rain, though. I kept it on at my first track event in the rain and felt like a rockstar because I was passing absolutely everybody and even lapping a few cars. I could feel it making corrections, but I didn't realize how huge the corrections were until I turned everything off and spun it twice in the same lap. Nice slice of humble pie and very instructive. Taught me that I didn't know jack about driving in the rain.

But in all seriousness, I've used Euro MDM happily at the track in the dry and thus far have found that it only intervenes when I've screwed up and am therefore grateful for its corrections. So I've been keeping it on as sort of a teaching tool; if I feel it intervene, I know I need to adjust my technique in that spot. MDM for me has become a way to more safely look for the limits of the car while reducing the risk that I'll have to (literally) pay for exceeding them.

I always keep DSC fully on when I'm on the road though. As I've gone to the track more, I've become less interested in road hooliganry. If you're driving on public roads in a way that trips DSC, you're doing it wrong IMHO.

Euro MDM sounds awesome; I didn't realize there was a difference from US M3s in this regard.

After hearing that switch can be programmed, along with servotronic and other stuff, I'm wondering if the ZCP competition pack's special dynamic sport EDC mode can be programmed to replace the static sport EDC mode on a regular M3.
Any idea if this has been done and/or is possible?

Yes, I have done this many times on E90 and E92's.

Makes a noticeable difference, and I can do it remotely no problem as well. The competition package settings are much better IMO.

+10 to what jphughan said, very well put

Mike,

Is ZCP EDC a separate programming from the one with Euro MDM? Asking, because I was not given changing EDC as one of my options. I'm interested in reprogramming EDC if still possible.

Yes, completely different from Euro MDM.

Euro MDM is traction control versus EDC suspension damping control.

On the track, I'm currently using normal EDC mode instead of sport, because on Non-ZCP cars the normal mode is adaptive, while the sport mode is static. If I reprogram the EDC to ZCP, will the sport mode then become adaptive and will the normal mode become static or remain adaptive as well?

Push the button on your wiper stalk to light up that LED. If your wipers start wiping intermittently even though it's dry out, you don't have it. If the wipers don't start until water hits the windshield, you have a rain sensor.

[QUOTE=mkoesel;11758498]Oh wow - you sir are one pioneering SOB. Finally, proof-positive that it can be done. Too cool! BTW, you are now the only guy in the US (in all of North America?), with a pre 2011.5 car with iDrive, MDrive, but no EDC.

Hmm, both my 2008 and 2011 E90's were equipped with Idrive, Mdrive and no EDC. I figured it would just break and didn't see the need for EDC. Or am I missing something?

At least in the US, prior to 2011.5 (when M Drive became standard), it wasn't possible to have M Drive without EDC since M Drive was only available in the Tech Package, which also included EDC.

ok, this is so confusing with the hardware part number. according to the OP, part number is 61 31 9 123 060 (with rain sensor). when i searched on getbmwparts.com, it says part is superceded and new part number is 61 31 9 179 506. but according to the vendors from getbmwparts and steve thomas bmw, that new part number 506 is for X6M, not M3 and it will not work for M3. so they told me to buy old part 060. now the problem is part 060 is priced at 557.00 while part 506 is priced at 422.00. can anyone who has done this successfully confirm what part number they used and if the new part number 506 will work? if it does, i rather get the newer part at cheaper price. thanks guys

I have no idea why you'd prefer the more expensive one, they are both the same bar the price. I use the cheaper one.....

Because it's the correct part number. It's what the car came with, so that's what I would want on my car. I don't care about saving $100 on something like that, would rather just have the one BMW lists as the right one and pay a marginal premium for it. Maybe the more expensive one uses better components? Don't know for sure.

It's not a valid supercession. It's a mistake.
