My 2013 "beeps" when I lock the door. It's an option in the idrive settings. Maybe I have the alarm.. ?

You definitely have an alarm.

RemoteKey is a DIY install, no coding/programming is necessary.

The alarm is listed under the standard features for the '13 M3. That's why you didn't see it as an option.

AWESOME!! thank you!!

I was wondering about this and it was driving me crazy. This will be my 3rd e92 M3 I had an 08' and 09' in the past. Today I ordered a 13'. The 08' i remember was dealer installed and the 09' I honestly dont remember. However, both had alarms and I'm almost positive neither was standard equipment.

The reason this was driving me nuts was there is no option for it, no mention of pre wiring, and the aftermarket person at the dealership had no idea what I was talking about

So for the '13 this is standard? Or something that has to be specified on the order?

alarm pre-wiring should be standard then you will have to activate it.

Okay, that just odd they took away the wiring for 2-3 years then added it back.

Decode the vin, if you have the "Pre-Factory alarm option" which means your car does not have an alarm but pre-wired.
Most 08s and 09s came pre-wired I believe.
I have a 04/09, it is pre-wired.

All E9X build before 3/09 are prewired for alarm.

All 4/09+ models that were not ordered with alarm will not have necessary prewiring. A retrofit kit (with BMW part number & even instructions) was intended, but seems to have never been released.

As with most BMWs that are close to this transition (within a month or so), it may swing either way. VIN check will show the Vehicle Order and know for sure.

Hope this helps.

There is a retrofit you can order from BMW Europe, not stocked in NA parts.

Just the alarm fromy our local dealer.

Will require coding after installation to be recognized by vehicle.

Does it say it's prewired (which would mean you need to buy the module)? If you have the alarm installed, then you would use NCS Expert to code your DWAI module.
