Current E90/92 Owners and the Upcoming F80 M3 / F82 M4
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I searched the forums and didn't see a topic on this (shocking but maybe my search sucked), but as more detail and pictures pop up about the upcoming F80 M3 and F82 M4, what are you guys thinking in terms of keeping or trading up for this new model? I have an '08 E90 which I absolutely love. I love the V8 rumble. I love the interior. I just honest to god love the car. But I can totally see myself wanting the F80 when it comes out too. I actually hate the way the new 3 series look, but I've been seeing some pictures of the new M3 that look appealing - see below (is that an F80 by the way or just a suped up F30 or a render?). Granted we're still awhile from seeing the new m3. That has got me thinking I'm going to hold onto my current ride for awhile...and see what the new one looks like. Hell, given the markup I'm guessing the new F80 will have for the first year, I'm guessing I wouldn't actually feasibly get one until maybe 2015 when prices die down? I haven't been in the BMW world that long so I'm not that knowledgable about how things have worked out historically with new car releases - would love to hear thoughts from people more experienced. Would also like to hear how other E90 owners are looking at their current ride and the upcoming F80. |

That's an M4 (F82) render. I am not sure how you hate the base (F30), yet love the M-version (F80), but your question seems rather superficial. If you are looking to buy a good looking car, there are other choices that may suit your need. You can read about the upcoming F80/F82 on the F80/F82 forum, but the current speculation is that it'll come with a turbo charged I6 (with an expected massive torque increase), EPS (yikes) and a significant weight reduction (not sure how BMW will pull this feat). Most of us won't know whether we want the new M3/M4 until we test drive one (which is still several months away). If the new M5 is any indication, I'm not very encouraged by BMW's recent history of transgressions. |

Yeah I've been reading pretty diligently about the F80. Engine is def a turbo I6. I had a 335d and was a fan of high torque at low RPMs, however, it's not a deal breaker for me. Good to know your thoughts on the m5 - exactly the kind of insight I was looking for! |

I love the NA V8, but turbos are really great too. The auto industry is moving in new directions and raw NA engines are turning into a thing of the past. The new NSX is going to be all wheel drive and have electric motors.
For me the performance increase to the F80 may not be worth the money. The E9x performs well enough already, but we always want more. The styling of the F80 will probably be better, or at least more modern. My 2011 E92 won't be paid off until 2017.5. I am leaning toward selling the car around that time and buying a used F82 after the Life Cycle Impulse update. I am guessing the 2017 F80 will have the LCI update. I love this M3, but when the time comes if Audi or someone else is making a better car I might go with that. |

I actually like the interior of the E90 much better than the F30. Sounds really stupid but I hate the cup holders in the F30. I love the push-in cup holders on the current m3. I'm with you - I'll probably keep this one around until 2015+ and see how the new one looks/feels. Who knows, by then I may have a family and have to buy a X5! |

Personally speaking, I bought a 2013 M3 b/c it is the last of the NA V8s and I wanted to join the party while I still could. Subsequently, I am planning on keeping it for 5 years at least, but it is not my DD. I am not excited at all about a turbo M3/M4, and am not a fan of the new 3er looks generally. This may be a topic for a different thread, but BMW has had some recent gaffes, eg:5 series GT, X6, (I really want to say 1er as well). Plus, the next generation is not always better than the last. |

I'm going to say if you bought your M3 in 08 and would have been driving it for 7 years when the M4 comes out in 2015 then yes it would be a good time to upgrade.
If you've only been driving your M3 for 5 or less years then I think the upgrade can wait. This is of course assuming you bought your M3, if you are leasing then it's a different story

I'm going to hang on to my 2013 for a while.. I love it.. It has everything i need.. If I stick with BMW, I may move down the line to an M2.. Haven't seen an m4 yet but I don't like how the cars are getting bigger and bigger as we go to every new generation

my only thought is, until we can see and test the new car all speculation is just completely useless now.
But here's mine: Based on the differences made between the E90 328 and the F30 328, I have high hopes the F80 M3 will be epic.... |

I just got a 2013, which is also already payed off. So selling it would be zero problem in near future. but i plan to hang on to it for 4 years or so. When that time comes i will look at cars that i might want. I think i might try for a V10 viper though. The new BMWs are getting soft. engine are getting lame. its not all about power, its about characteristics. which is what the e92 m3 and M5 v10 was all about.

Need to see more about the next M3. It needs to be better than the E92 M3 for me to jump ships. I'm perfectly happy with my M3 though.

I think as more images and info comes out it will help people decide. In the meantime we already have a waiting list forming for both the m3 and m4.
I personally will most likely get a m4 as soon as they come out. I must say BMW has its work cut out to fill the e9x place. This car is amazing in every way IMO

Both.
Keeping E92 coupe for me and buying the wife a new M4 as soon as they are available to order. I am already on Francesca's wait list for M4. I think I am #5 for ED.

I'm holding on to my e92. I can't trade a blown v8 for a twin+ 6. Next car will be a p-car.

I have an n55-variant in my X5 already and that's where it belongs. On an M3? lol. As soon as it can turn 550+ RWHP on the stock turbos with a linear power delivery without spinning the crap out of the tires in lower RPM range at WOT...then we can talk.
