Nurburgring Questions

So wife and I are taking delivery of an M3 on October 1 at the Welt. We are scheduled to ride with the BMW Ring Taxi on October 7. Would it be recommended to take a lap on our own? I have limited track experience.

I think u should definitely take the opportunity. But think about the experience as learning the track. U don't want to go over the recommended rpm for break in in any case. U can kill it next time u visit the track.

You can have fun on the ring driving within the break-in guidelines, but check your mirrors as you will be a moving chicane. Do it!!

Can you drive to the UK via the BMW insurance on ED?

Also, do you need special insurance for the 'Ring?

Moving chicane sounds about right. I've been a track guy for nearly 10 years but a public day on a wet Nurburgring fills me with dread. Lot of idiots from what I've heard.....

Yes, just be careful. I'll be at the ring with my new M3 on the 30th, but I've driven it before. When it's a car you own, the name of the game is just using common sense and not going all out.

If you're careful, allow people to pass, and obey the rules you'll be fine. Hell, I've passed double decker tour busses on the ring on touristenfahren days.

Just did ED a couple weeks back and drove the 'Ring. As others have mentioned, just don't push the car too hard and look out for other drivers. Everyone is technically supposed to follow German driving rules and laws, and most drivers have great track etiquette, but you'll have the occasional underpasser or the person who will come in tight to pass you on the turn. Enjoy the experience, it is likely to be the best 20km of your trip!

Best investment you can make prior to driving the "Ring is a driving simulation that has the circuit on it. You'll be amazed how helpful it is to know what's coming next and the general line to take.

Take your time, don't push it, watch out for the really fast (experienced) guys and you'll have a blast.

If I could have done ED, then I'd definitely go to Nurburgring.

Just don't forget: there is a limit to both the drivers capabilities and the cars. Don't exceed either
