Urgent Help Requested

I am about to get my first M3 but am concerned about the spare tire situation. How hard is it to put together the homemade space saver spare I have seen posted? I am very new to this.

Thanks!

Just don't get a flat. I know that is not constructive, sorry. If you get a flat, just call roadside assistance.

My concern is if I am far from any majour urban area or even if it is just 2 in the morning. I would be willing to put some spare in the trunk. I know GregW has managed to construct one. I would either do that or get an extra front wheel and tire. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks

You will lose pretty much all of your trunk space. If that is not a problem, go for it, and get a spare.

Both the Cayman S and M3 have the same problem, so I had to put that issue aside, but it's definitely a concern of mine as well. What I did in the mean time was add a flat tire kit, which is a lot better alternative than the BMW goop, plus you don't screw up the TPMS sensor. I also bought the BMW jack kit, but man, it's heavy as heck (at least I can remove the damn tire if needed).

Finally, I'd avoid treading over any unpaved surface, stretches of asphalt cars don't usually use and a lot of debris is collected, construction zones (avoid those like the plague ), etc. The above scenarios are typical if you're traveling in an unfamiliar place and suddenly need to make a U-turn or something. I rather drive longer and avoid making such turn in debris, etc. And by the way, that's a good practice even with a spare, as it's a PITA to get a flat regardless. Take care.

with all due respect but BULLSHIT!!!! after 7 incidents in less than 1 year with the fucking tires i will never ever buy a fucking car that doesnt have a spare, or RFT. AAA >>>> BMW roadside. the wait time for a tow truck to show up is at least 3x the time it takes AAA. but how annoying is it to have to tow your car, when you can jack it up in 10 minutes and keep on rolling.

if i am sick of one thing in the M3 it's the lack of spare. and i dont give a damn that high performance cars dont come with one, this is my daily driver.

put on RFTs. you'll lose ride quality and handling, but you won't have to worry about a spare.
