Targa Newfoundland
I am planning on entering the Targa Newfoundland race this year with a buddy. Saw the Eric Bana movie "Love the Beast" on SpeedTV about Targa Tasmania (trailer below if you haven't seen it) and now I can't think of a better way to spend my disposable funds and vacation time... The M3 is absolutely out of the question (given my co-driver) so would likely pick up an old Miata or something along those lines. Anyone here done NL Targa before?

A couple of my friends from the NJBMWCCA have done it several times in a E36 M3. You've really got to be committed to do well. They do all kinds of special prep to the car and then spend two weeks on the road between the travel and the Targa itself. Still, they seem to love it and are treated like celebrities when they're racing.

No but a lot of my friends have done it and everybody to a T says that it is the event that you have to do at least once.Car & class choice seems to make a lot of difference in how much you enjoy the event. The biggest thing is to have a car that has reasonable ground clearance with a very compliant suspension as the roads tend to be quite rough and dirty compared to what you see in circuit racing. It is one of events that someday I have to do!Not a cheap event to do for sure.
Here are some rentals availible with an experianced team. http://users.eastlink.ca/~mcnuttracing/targa.pdf |

Newfoundland Targa on TSN
TSN did a 1 hour special on the Targa this weekend, which I just happened by when I was setting up the PVR for the F1 race. Looks like a great race and a great time!
