Yep, I've got a cool whine as well. I figure its the belt or VANOS, but I could be very, very wrong. Anybody know for sure?

Dunno. Mine makes all kinds of interesting noises. Never owned a car that had so many different engine tones.

Are you sure your woman isn't in the trunk? (joke taken from someone else on here)

I get a whine also ... not sure what it is. I'm a little paranoid about the sound my car makes at idle though. I get some sort of gurgle besides the normal engine noise, but only at idle. Anyone?

Mine has the "whine" as well. I think this is normal. It's subtle and sounds good

The outermost camshafts are gear driven from the inside camshafts which are chain driven from the crank.

The cheaper alternative is to use a belt but they stretch under high loads.

Anything gear driven will produce a whine of some sort.

I concur, to anyone what knowledge of both the Lotus Twin-cam and the Cosworth BDA engines will know exactly what you mean by this.

Yeah, I have that, too. I thought it was coming from the differential though.

Yup, the diff noise is there too.

Seems loudest at about 60-70km/hr

The whine on my 6MT car was more prominent after the first service. I like it...very subtle.
