S65 Engine with DCT or Manual

In this thread, I'd like to focus on whether people feel that the DCT is better suited for the S65 engine or whether a six speed manual is better suited?
I'm sure this topic has been talked about before, but I would like to gather some more thoughts.

Just to be clear, I don't want this thread to turn into a DCT vs Manual debate on which is better.

The DCT is the way to go. This way when the engine blows the dealer can't blame you for an overrev.

Always been a manual guy but DCT has changed me with this car. Rolls on a hill like a manual, no park unless turned off. Shifts are so instant and crisp.

Looks like the 6MT will outlive the DCT starting with G series M cars.

Long live the 6MT!!

But while ur at it don't forget to stash away a DCT car as they will be missed once they're gone.

Now what was the question ......

Engine is optimized with the DCT.

6MT is more fun and involving for many.

If the 6MT was any good then that would be the answer but it's not, and the DCT is great so...

I think the car is better suited for DCT.

I personally prefer the 6MT just to be a bit more involved, however. AutoSolutions custom shifter is in the mail!

I'm brand new to my E90 M3 and BMWs in general. I got the 6MT because I new I could only afford a higher mileage car and I can change a clutch myself. As I understand it, the DCTs are stout but I really don't trust anyone, especially over 8+ years of prior ownership. So far I've enjoyed the 6MT. I haven't daily driven a MT in about 5 years so I was a bit apprehensive to get one, but I have no regrets. I've got about 5 weeks of ownership now.

Both transmissions mate well to the s65 engine, so the question is which you prefer to drive. Unlike the SMG transmission of the e46 M3, the DCT does not appear to be prone to failures, and despite commentary by some, the 6 MT is easy to shift and has positive gate definition. The throws are a bit longer than ideal, but this can be quickly remedied with a short shift kit or the fitment of a shorter shift lever.

The M3 engne is a high revving, NA engine so it makes its power 'up top'. That said, the engine is not 'made for the DCT'. That is absurd.

You can use the 6MT with this engine just like all over high revving NA engines on the planet. They all make most their power up top and require shifting to make the most of the power.

Assuming your arm functions are you know how to shift, the 6MT does not have any more disadvantages in this car than in others.

I have one of each. I laugh out loud every time I heard 'made for...'. How exactly?

Do you have any numbers to back this up or this is something that you have read?

I think the idea would be they develop the car with the DCT and in the last months they throw in the MT as an afterthought. That's how a lot of software is made anyway. Develop for a specific platform and work on making everything work exactly like you want, then get some other stuff "working" at the last minute.
