I wouldn't be too sure the 18" setup is lighter. The 18s are cast and 19s are forged. Ibet they are the same or the 19s are lighter.

according to the info on this board the 18 inch combo is 3-4 lbs less per corner.

Guess I missed that. That's from actual weighing on the same scale?

Actually the information is out there. I cant remember where you can find official numbers from BMW. But yes, around 4 pounds per corner. 16lbs of unsprung weight...or equivalent to about 64lbs of sprung weight removed from the car.

not that I disagree with the 64 lbs. but mostly its due to reducing rotational mass (weight).

static mass - CF roof
unsprung wt - wheels or even aluminum suspension arms
reciprocating mass - lieghtweight pistions
rotating mass - wheels, driveline

I think I'll be going with the 18's as there are more track tires available, they are lighter, and you save $1200. I'll save up and get some aftermarket 19's with maybe some nice lowering springs that work with EDC (hopefully other people can be the guinea pigs to review)

Personally the 19's look like you should be "rollin' gangsta style in da escalade"

I think the 18's looks track worthy. Look at Indy cars. They aren't rolling wheels that big. There is a reason.

It seems to be totally personal preference with the 19's winning the vote 70:30 over 18's.

Pick what YOU like. Not what everyone says.

18s for me... I like the way they look on my AW.... added benefit is that it hides the brake dust dirtiness a little bit...

Prefer 18" because of practicality, cost and better ride, especially if you live in northeast where roads are horrendous. Looks wise I could go both, highly depended on color.

19"=White/Silver
18"=Black/Grays/Interlagos/Red

Performance between the two are negligible.

I'm not really fond of the current 19's. I prefer the E46 ///M3's 19" alloys (..especially the BBS Comp.Pkg wheels). Conversely, I prefer the E9X 18" alloys to the E46's 18" alloys. I'll stick w/ the 18's this time around.

The 18s look so good in person, pictures dont look good at all!! Saw them today at my dealer and was very glad I ordered them. The 19s remind me of the rims on the old m3

and the truth is out - the 19 inch tire/wheel combo weighs less than the 18's.

Is there published information that lists the weights of both wheels?

Not official. There are several threads on this subject. I weighed the 19s with tires. Others weighed the 18s. Sayemthree summed it up here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=weight

I am ordering 18" not only because they are cheaper, but because they look better in my opinion, giving off a kind of street race vibe and they will behave better on the car in terms of handling balance, steering feel and ride quality.

18s are perfect performance-wise, economy-wise and comfort-wise.

Aesthetically, being dark, they suit only light colors (aw, ss etc)
I wish they were offered also in shiny alu or chrome coating, to match darker body colors, too.
