to be honest its not different than any other cars... the only thing you need to worry is the brakes and tires, but that all depends on how you drive. Test drove the car several times before and after getting my M3... and in the end i still decided to keep the M3... its just luxury and buying a GTR for me was just a waste if you dont track the car which was meant to be.

oil change cost 230 at the dealer... and you dont really need anything other than an oil change then overhaul all fluids at 30 k miles not on the manual but thats what i would do. and plus if you do the DIY job saves you $$$$$$$$

I just did all my Fluid on my M3

Tranny
Engine
Diff
Brake

dealer price close to $1500-1800 was quoted..

DIY price... $352
They want you to change the tranny fluid every 18,000 miles and if you don't it voids the warranty. The transmission on those cars is about $12-15K. 1 quart of their DCT fluid is about $80-100, so the fluid swap is about $1800-2000. That's JUST the transmission fluid.

So much mis-information.. the 'entire' 18,000 mile service is roughly $1,300 to $1,800, depending on the dealer and includes doing trans, diffs, engine etc... I did all the fluids myself for $1,000 (including Brake Fluid & Power Steering at $13K). The trans fluid is expensive at almost $70 a quart.. and you need 8 quarts. d

If you're a 'real' car guy... not some poser driving around in a sports car... the maintenance is nothing more than a typical sports car... and significantly less than any other SuperCar!

The M3 is great... with everything covered including service for the first 50K miles... but the GTR shouldn't be looked to be high maintenance when compared to any other SuperCar...

Peace,
Dave

I did extensive research on a couple of different forums before I decided to go with an M3 and never came across your total of expenses--having said that I'd have to take your word for it. Also, I've never owned a sports car that took $1000 of ANY type or culmination of fluids, so, that to me, is expensive.

Sounds like your prices are dealer prices.... DIY and buying the oil online is cheaper way cheaper... My friend have had other vendors and shops change oil for him and its no where near that price. I guess he just know people ... I know he buys the oil no where close to 80 or even 60 bucks , Like i said if u know where to go it will be cheap.... Yes oil change is much earlier compare to M3 but still its not much...

They will say "at the end of the day you are still driving a Nissan/Datsun"..

Jokes aside...

I am a former owner of a modified 350z and Nissan is a great car but for me and my tastes I want performance, comfort, and looks. Nissan has 1 of those 3 things I am looking for. I would go Gallardo or R8 if I wanted that performance level, looks, and comfort at a 10/10 level.

Heck, I would even consider a ZR1 or F430.

I feel like the dual clutch and AWD takes half the fun away from mastering the art of driving (at the track). I'd rather be slower but know I'm earning my times at the track than being faster than everyone knowing the car is doing most of the work for me.

However when I'm passing up all of these lotus Elise's and spec miatas, I feel like I'm in the same scenario in the M3 with the huge power advantage.

That is the one drawback I see to the GTR. I have been tracking for 5 years and I've made a lot of progress. I'm not sure I would progress as much driving the GTR, but I may be mistaken. Yes, compared to some the M3 is a bully car. But the GTR is the ultimate bully car. Would not have to be so concerned about the high hp Corvettes etc.

+1. I would prefer to master the RWD set up. This is of course due to my vision of the 80's montage of me progressively improving my times at the track, kicking a gas can when I blow out a tire, coming back harder than ever and ultimately gaining the notice of a major car manufacturer. Then him picking me up for the racing team as I try to slowly out edge the older wiser master driver with my young daring tactics. We ultimately clash heads at first but then gain the respect of one another at the end of the race season where he ends up taking out another driver for me to win the race. I hold up my trophy and dedicate the race to my partner and new friend. Que the credits.

Love, love my GTR. It was fun stock, but now that it's converted to E85 and making 600+ whp, it's the most entertaining car I've ever owned. The acceleration of this thing to 120 mph is just unbelievable. Sometimes it feels like it's going to ripple the asphalt it accelerates so brutally. If you are at all handy, the fluid services can be DIY for about $700 including the oil change rather than 1800+ at the dealer. Oil changes are as simple as any car, and $50 for the supplies for DIY.

Watch it!

The GTR is a beast. That's its personality. That would mean it has a surly disposition. It definitely has sould if it has those 2 characteristics. I can go further. It's raw and untamed. It takes what you give and pushes back. I forces you to be brave. It forces you to tearn how to survive its beastliness. Can you ever master it?

If that isn't soul nothing is.

I didn't mean that the GTR is a soulless car. The other poster stated that he didn't know what the concept of soulless meant when it came to cars. I told him to drive a Lexus as an example of a truly soulless car.

If you said the same thing about an LFA or IS-F, it would have made more sense...

You obviously have never diven one. It's raw? Seriously?. It pushes back?....its a car that makes an average driver look good. That isn't raw.

I'm no GTR hater and certainly appreciate what the car can do from a performance standpoint but these comments are ludicrous.

If anything has soul it is the LFA!

The car is not the fastest, it isn't the best looking but if you just go in it on a lap around a race track (as I have), you'd understand why they made the car - it is for the driving experience. Everything screams at your senses. The heavenly engine note, the manual feeling gear changes and precise steering feedback. After I got out of that car, I had tears in my eyes. It is an emotional experience. It definitely is not a "Lexus" as you think a regular Lexus is.

Here's my thread about it and my in-car video.

I just got my 18k service done at a dealer for $850. For the amount of performance you get out of the car, it is well worth the maintenance cost. If you can afford a 100k for a car you should be able to pay for periodic maintenance.

No, I have not driven one but I have been a passenger when the owner drove it like an insane person in need of medication.

Part of the reason I say it's raw is because you can hear the gears shift and it has unending power....it seems.

Great write up. Im mixed about GTR. No reason for anyone to pay 100k for a Nissan.

Now a CLK63 black series on the other hand..is truly a machine and only $70k used.
