I think all this 10W60 overpriced oil stuff is just bunk. I changed out to non-synth Castrol 5W30 a month ago and it seems to be running better than ever. I think I picked up about 7HP, and my miles per tank actually went up!

But seriously, has anyone run the Red Line 10/60 and done oil analysis?

What I have a problem with is the 10/60 part, especially when not tracking the car. I'm positive engine is wearing more every cold start, especially in winter. Probably a band-aid for lousy tolerances. That might explain why some engines gulp oil while others don't, under similar circumstances. Oh well. At least mine doesn't consume an abnormal amount, since level hasn't moved from full in 3K miles (that doesn't mean is not consuming, but at least less than 1/4L). Ferrari recommends 5/40 Pennzoil Ultra all the time, by the way. Have a great day. |

I've read in other threads that the 10W-60 TWS breaks down pretty quickly to about 10W-50 viscosity and stays there for the full life of the oil (15k miles). The 50 weight is necessary for the very high temperatures this engine generates when driven hard (as in at the track). If not tracking the car, I believe something like Redline 10W-40 would be more appropriate. I'd mix it 50/50 with their 30 weight race oil and change it at 7500 mile intervals.
By the way, on the TDI forums, more and more oil analyses are supporting 20+k mile intervals. And that's with a diesel!!!!! I'll stick to my 7500 mile intervals, but food for thought.
