Ultra Crisis

Hello,

If you haven't noticed yet, Petro Canada is running out of Ultra and 91 octane. If you need premium gas from Petro, only Evans and Kipling has it. I don't know about other gas station, but I would fill up if I were you. The explanation is that gas in not coming from the US.

Good luck.

doesn't canada produce its own oil? why the hell do we ship it to the americans to be refined and then buy it back?????????????? supposedly it's cheaper this way, but it doesn't make any sense! why not build a refinery here, employing canadians, and keep our money in our economy instead of giving it to the americans.

I'm already almost full. An extra 5-10 litres or so won't get me far given the fuel consumption of this car

That sucks. I am wondering why we send gas to Canada and then say that supply is low and charge us Americans over $5 a gallon. If supply is low then we should take care of our needs first.

By the way I am just joking. I can't find a just kidding emoticon.

Have a good day ey hoser.

There are at least 3 refineries in Canada. Sarnia and Nanticoke ON (Exxon), and Edmonton, AB (Shell).

There are a lot more than 3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ineries#Canada

We do. Canada is usually in the top 10 oil exporters in the world. Thanks to NAFTA 60% of our crude is exported to the US but we import about 50% of the oil we consume (out east) from places like Algeria and Venezuela. The problem is there's no direct pipeline connecting the oil producing west with the gas consuming east. Look at the pipeline map:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/interactives/map-pipeline/

Oil from the west is refined down in the States then sent back to Ontario. Makes sense if you look at the pipelines. The west is self sufficient but I think prices are higher out here? Go figure.

Enbridge is reversing line 9 to bring western product to Ontario and ultimately Montreal.
http://www.enbridge.com/ECRAI/Line9ReversalProject.aspx

TransCanada is converting a portion of their gas pipeline to oil service, probably in the next 5-8 years. That will bring more western product to eastern markets and maybe get out as far as tidewater as a potential export project off the east coast.

Pipelines do play a role but product will go to the market with the highest netback to the producer so sometimes, its not all about pipeline capacity. Thats why you see people using rail/truck/barge to juice their netbacks by taking product to premium markets, despite paying a much higher transport fee (vs. pipeline) to do so and still make a sweet margin. All western barrels want to get down to USGC (hence the reason why Enbridge and TransCanada are both working on projects to increase/twin pipeline capacity there).

Still feels like these eastern projects will get built before Northern Gateway due to all of the NIMBY's out west in BC. Hell, they don't even want Kinder Morgan to expand an existing pipeline. More like NIABY (not in anyones back yard).

Also, better maps here:
