Good luck bro, let us know how it works out.
What sucked for me is that while I was stationed in Germany I bought my car. In being moved back to the states, according to law I had to register and title the car in either A) my home of record or B) the place my orders were taking me. Both of these places had a sales tax that I had to pay on the car, regardless of where it was purchased. Just another government plot to steal money from us. Anyway, I chose VA with 3% instead of PA with 8%, lol... It sucked, but had to do it. I contacted my legal reps in the Army and everything, no way to avoid it!

My home property tax in Anne Arundel County, MD on a $500,000 single family home is the same as the townhouse I owned in Loudoun County, VA that I paid $200,000 for. I just moved to MD in January.

Arlington County:
$5 per $100, first $3000 not counted. So my 08 E90 M3 value around $45000 = $2100. Qualify for tax relief? $1250 for the year. Yes sir, please ream me some more next year. http://www.arlingtonva.us/department...hangesFAQs.pdf Conversly in my home state of Delaware County, Ohio - no vehicle property tax, but 6.75% sales tax. Pay once for the rest of your life better than paying every year if you plan on keeping your car for 3+ years. Plus don't have to hassle with annual state emission and safety check. 2006 data:
Vehicle Tax Rates In Northern Virginia Per $100 of assessed value Arlington $5.00* Alexandria $4.75 Falls Church $4.71 Fairfax County $4.57 Loudoun County $4.20* Prince William County $3.70 Fairfax City $3.29 * Arlington and Loudoun counties use the National Automobile Dealers Association's average loan value to determine the value of cars, which they estimate is 10 percent lower than the NADA trade-in value used by the other jurisdictions. Because of that, officials say, the effective tax rate is $4.50 for Arlington and $3.78 for Loudon. |

Maryland does not have any property taxes for vehicles for individuals. If you have a business and the car is registered for that business then I believe you do have to pay a tax on that car, as you do for any business related item that you own. One of the few things that I like about my home state. Good article below about taxes in our area.
"Of course, Virginia is still regional champion of auto taxes, even after the big rollback that was the central reason for Gov. Jim Gilmore's existence. No other jurisdiction in the region levies a personal property tax on cars." http://voices.washingtonpost.com/raw...irginia_m.html |
