Let's revisit this in a year or two...I'm sure a lot of people will jump ship to the F8X.

Don't disagree! I bought an E60 545 back in Dec 2003 and the E39 guys were the same way. Many ultimately made the jump. Same for E60 to F10... We E9X folks are no different. The new version sucks, blah, blah, blah... Some will not buy and take their money elsewhere. But for many the new design will grow on them and they will ultimately buy one. And I count myself in that camp. Not a big fan now but we'll what's out there in two-to-three years and decide then...

Further to the point of this thread, I have zero interest in any overpriced and unreliable modern BMW or even Porsche. Actually once I'm done with the M3 I may make the opposite move to you and get a C6 Z06. That or a GTR possibly. Or I may get an old S2k, Evo or Nissan Z and build it into a dedicated track car and have a more reasonable daily driver instead. |

gotta buy a house first. i need 2 parking spots. I definitely can't have a z06 as my only car with the kind of winter we have over here. you obviously bought a z06 for the wrong reason if you sold it in less than a week.

This new car has essentially NO CORE //M principles in it. It has some cool tech and carbon fiber tech in it, but the engine is a joke, and clearly a way for BMW to make more money as the MAIN factor and better fuel economy as a secondary factor, but the fuel economy is the one they MARKET as the main reason for going FI. It's not like BMW sells huge volumes of M3's. How much better is the S55 than FBO tuned N54?? I'm sure it's more reliable since it'll be designed fro 430HP stock, but it sounds like SH$T compared to the other BMW turbo 6's. There's just nothing special about the S55, IMO... but I'm the 2% and not the 98% who will buy the F80 and never track it, but will LOVE the torque down low and the push in the back it'll give them so they feel like they're going so fast. That's who BMW is selling the car too now. .

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

NOTHING, absolutely nothing, will beat hitting 8400 rpm on a naturally aspirated V8.

As a long time BMW fan, for the first time I have zero interest in the next generation M3/M4. It's either 991 or GTR next for me. I'm going to try to keep the E92 at the same time though. Something tells me if I sell the M I'm really going to regret it in the future.

I'm planning to keep flogging the V8 beast for more years
while building up some capital. Have my sights on getting an X5 as practical daily and tow for dedicated race car. If I can hit my targets I may move up to 991 GT3 or Cayman GT4 as my fun car. The M3 is hard to beat for all in one do everything car, The F8X looks like it will serve that purpose well but after man handling Big Bertha around I'd like something more nimble and light.

If my 2011 M3 got stolen or wrecked I would buy a 2013 M3.
The styling of the F80 interior and exterior is a deal breaker for me right off the bat. The engine being more complicated is a big turn off. It's got more sensors and variables to control so for sure its going to have more problems. When the warranty runs out it's gonna suck to own one. |

If you look at the P1 and 918...they represent they future of performance vehicles. Wouldn't be surprised if the next M cars used hybrid technology from the i8. M has evolved...I now see the division as a synergy between technology, innovation, performance, and affordability. The one thing that M did for BMW was to test CFRP for lower cost mass production. So M cars have what super cars have.

I don't think I'll sell for the next 8 years or so. Even then, I'd probably end up just keeping it and getting a new track toy / weekend car. The feeling that I get when driving around town is just amazing. The V8 rumble as it pushes me back into the seat seems to bring a smile to my face every time. I'm content with what I have.
