2011 E90 M3 On Ebay - Beware!!!!!

Just wanted to throw a warning out to you all since I was within hours of buying this car. There is a 2011 M3 SEDAN with ZCP and DCT in JB with black leather being sold in Clearwater Florida with a clean title. The car only shows a little over a 1,050 miles with a clean Carfax and clean Autocheck. Also had an inspection done of the car that came back clean and BMW doesn't even show an issue with the car in their system.

Upon further investigation though Carco.com and the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS.gov), I found that the car was declared a total loss by Progressive Insurance and has a salvage/junk designtion in IL. This goes to show that not even Carfax is foolproof. I believe the car was either stolen and VIN tags switched from the wrecked car, or the wrecked car was rebuilt, or the car was stolen, declared a total loss and then recovered and sold at auction. Either way it's a risky proposition.

This was the first I learned of NMVTIS.gov and will use it in the future. The report only cost me $3.50 and it found more info than the $35.00 Carfax. It's not fully operational in all states yet but definately worth a check for $3.50.

Anyway, I picked up a sweet low mileage 2009 M3 in Chicago and will be flying up Saturday to drive her home. I will also be hitting the Tail of the Dragon on the way back since it's right on the way!

Fuc* car fax there shit 6/10 times is screwed up I check a car fax on my moms car that had been bought buy her and it said that she had been in a rear end accident which my moms car was never in one she bought it brand new with 3 miles on it. Just goes to show you cant trust those car check sites best thing to do is get a trained eye on a car before buying.

Thanks for the FYI, sounds shady to say the least.

Side rant in 3 - 2 - 1...
...IMO people have become retarded lemmings not capable of a solid independent thought. Carfax while a great information tool, is nothing more. Americans have become so depended on others to tell them what to do that common sense has given way to things like a Carfax report.

I completely agree, but it's people who won't give the whole truth that make us need informational sights like carfax unfortunately

When I bought my E46 M3 it had a clean Carfax, but after talking to a dealership and pulling up the cars service history at a BMW dealership I found it had been brought in for rear end suspension damage. Because the work wasn't done at a deal no report was generated to Carfax.

On the flip side I was selling a car and was told not the do any touch-up work because it would generate a Carfax entry and paint work reduces the value of a car. How does re-painting a front bumper with rock chips reduce value? RETARDED logic!

Like I said, Carfax reports are a great tool in shopping for a car, but people need to be able to look at a car and use some common sense too.(which is anything but common)

I called and they assured the car has a clean title, but liars like to prosper :-)
