There is no such GT3 RS that weights under 3000 lbs. This is what I have tried to say. Please make a search in www.rennteam.com

The owner of a 997.2 GT3 RS subtract the extras from 1475 kg and also subt. some costy extras such as PCCB, lightweight battery and subt. weight of A/C and stereo to reach the quoted 1375 kg from Porsche BUT still couldn't get there.

Since Everyone posting their previous 911s, here is mine:

The day I picked it up from the Dealer.

Here is the interior with full leather + SC + painted center consule + extra thick leather sports steering wheel (yeah, I paid extra for that, too).

And here is my former E92 M3:

And the interior of my M3. The seats are BMW Performance so maybe it doesn't count BUT I gladly prefer them over my 911's A.S.S.

2 more shots:

M3's rear looks more masculine to me. It is a personal taste.

No doubt that BMW's paint quality could be improved, and Porsche "might" currently have a leg up on BMW in that department. Like most other former (and current) Porsche owners here, I still give it to the M3 over base 911 and S models when it comes to interiors.
And let's not go off on options, or other 100K Porsche models, because it's kind of stupid considering we are comparing a $65K BMW to these. Maybe we need to drag Rolls Royce into the comparison, as BMW owns them?????

When I purchased my first new Porsche (911SC) it was a silver one, at night, off the lot. The next morning I drove it to work, and my partner said my new car must have been previously wrecked, because one of the doors was a different shade of silver. Upon inspection, it really was a slightly different shade. Porsche and the dealer swore that was factory paint, and it had never been wrecked. It ended up turning into a legal mess, with the dealer and Porsche finally taking the car back.

At least the doors on my M3 match.

But the weight difference is not 500 lbs if your car is not cab.
Actually, Porsches are heavier than manafacturer's claim. There are several 911 GT3 owners in rennteam.com who had reported that their GT3/GT3 RS is significantly heavier than Porsche's claim. There is one poster who weighted his 997.2 GT3 RS and it is 1475 kg with 2/3 full tank. Porsche claim 1370 kg (DIN)

There were 2 others who reported that their cars weight around 70-90 kg more.

On the other hand we have consistant weight of 1620-1640 kg for E92 M3. So real World difference between 997.2 Carrera S PDK vs. E92 M3 w/DKG is around 110-120 kg~240-260 lbs. It is significant BUT not as much as 500 lbs.
It all comes down to options. If someone was to buy a GT3 RS and added zero options, chances are it will weigh the same or close to Porsche's claim. But as soon as you add full leather interior, PCM, audio upgrades, fire extinguisher, etc the weight goes up 200 lbs easily. And these are options that most people that spec out P-cars get. I would NEVER own a P-car without full leather as I just love it. My 997.1 C2S had full leather and the adaptive sports seats which were spectacular imho.

It takes a lot of options on the 997 to get the interior to be nicer than the M3. Plus even more options to get all of the extras like self dimming mirrors, a limited slip diff, etc. I priced out a 997.2 C2S and was pushing 100K to get it matched up option for option with a loaded M3. At that point you may as well just buy a beater as a DD and get a GT3.

We can't compare M3 to 911, just not in the same league and target audience is different demographics. But M3 gives you practicality and is still about 95% faster than any car on the road, which is more than sufficient for me.

As someone who's saving every penny for a 997.2 GT3RS, there will always be a spot in my garage for at least 1 M even if I get extremely lucky in this life that I can afford the RS and some other exotics we all drool over.

My M3 and Z4M may be my last "latest" Ms, however. I just don't like FI "performance" cars and while I believe the M division will pull it off, the soul of M will be compromised.
Well, I just need to get that RS soon!!

Porsche quotes "the lightest possible weight" not the basic car weight unlike BMW. BMW quotes the weight of basic trim car.
So you have to delete A/C + Radio/CD and have to add PCCB, one-piece Recaro shells, lightweight battery and should not take any options. Furthermore your car has to have 63L fuel tank instead of 90L in order to reach official 1375 kg DIN weight which is in reality NOT possible.

What I dislike the most about Porsche is its ridicolous priced options that should have come standart with the Car. It is unbelieveable to milk money from the customers for LSD, paddles, extra functions for PDK etc.

I understand mega bucks for special colors and leather everywhere BUT on a performance car, you pay for PDK but for the full functions you MUST get Sport chrono. You pay for everything, and then pay some more to paddles on the steering wheel. This is nuts.

Thinking about buying CPO Porsche, the options don't add as much to used value as new.

The only options that really add to the value are Bose and Nav...thats really about it. People want the car and dont really care about the options. I saw an X51 2007 997S that had an MSRP go for $110k, 3 years later the car sold for $60k when I sold my lightly optioned 997S for just over $55k, my car stickered for $88k when new.
