Lexus Must be Desperate

Every now and again I do a search on YouTube to see if any new M3 videos have been posted. Lexus has it set up so their IS-F ad is the first and last video seen on every page.

I can repect competition and good advertising (which Lexus has) but ease off the gas a little guys. I wonder how much that costs?

^^^^
No nothing wrong with it, but the fact that someone takes the time to tell another person that they have to much time on their hands is pretty funny.

Why is this desperate, and why should they ease off a little?

Maybe you know some things about advertising that I don't, but this seems like smart marketing to me.

If Lexus was desperate by doing that, what about BMW doing the same with Audi? They bought a huge billboard space on top of an Audi dealership in HK!

Yeah, and maybe they should put a rep outside every BMW dealership handing out literature [sarcasm]. It just seemed a little tacky to me.

I repeat, why is this desperate, and why should they ease off a little?

The reality is that this is good marketing. The majority of the people that search for m3 on youtube are probably people who do not actually own an M3. Therefore, Lexus is introducing these "potential customers" to an alternative competing product. They figure that they can more accurately target a demographic for their product at what is more than likely a more reasonable price than running a commercial for a variation of one of their products. What would you rather do, broadcast a commercial to 50 million people who may or may not be interested in cars? OR: Broadcast to 50 thousand people(In this case, those searching m3 on youtube) who are obviously looking at not only a car, but a car that directly competes with your product. Its just smart marketing.
